Will the arrival of a European Defence Force be a matter of 'when' rather than 'if'?
And more so, how will it be organised? Will it be centrally run? Whereby there is a collective European Army, Air Force and Navy? Or instead would it be run like a NATO-style organisation, where all the member states would recruit its own forces as they do now, but then centrally 'pool' them together like modern day alliances? How would neutral member states fair if the continuing integration forces their service personnel to fight? Anyone on here an expert on these sorts of matters? I know there's a few who have a good knowledge of military affairs so what's your view? |

From here:
Ministre - Vœux du ministre de la Défense Translated: "Tues 22nd of January at the Naval museum, the minister for Defence, Mr Hervé Morin, presented his speech to to over 200 hundred people. Among those present; the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, the chiefs of staff of the three armed forces, the Director General of the National Gendarmerie, parliamentarians, representatives of the diplomatic corps, industrialists and journalists. The points of views expressed where involved in a modernization of the Ministry of Defence. Mr Morin hopes that this reform - which will involve both military and civilian - will be "conducted with transparency and confidence." The objective, said the minister, is to have "a well-equipped army, equipped with powerful hardware adapted to the missions likely to be encountered, better trained and paid personnel, and a credible defence program." The Minister also called for the development of "European Defense," which will be placed at the centre of European construction, as of 1 July 2008, when France will take the presidency of the European Union."
