Default Up to 26th

Up from 29th to 26th position at 1pm today with total signatures now over 8,000.

N.B. message from Speakout just received:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A big thank-you to all those who signed the Downing Street petition calling on Gordon Brown to honour his manifesto pledge to give us a referendum on giving sweeping new powers to the European Union.

The number of signatures has more than doubled to almost 8,000 but this is nowhere near enough to register on the media radar screens.

What we need is for you to email 10, 20, 100 of your contacts and get them to sign the petition.

We need to build the momentum. Please - do it today.

Here is the link - http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/EU-treaty-NON/

When you have done that we would invite you to visit the new Blog and News sections of the Speakout website.

Thanks

Default Another 1,000 today

Quite a good day for the petition, it has risen from 29th to 24th most popular in a day, the total number of signatures tonight being 8,788 (twelve more signed whilst I was typing this posting). Therefore nearly 1,000 have signed it today.

Now, with the petition closing on 31 January, I make that 211 days away.

If 1,000 signed every day, that would be another 211,000, ending up with a total of 220,000 or so.

Under a quarter of a million.

Not enough.

If however we could get this up to 10,000 a day, we would be in business.

If over 1.8 million could sign against road pricing, then surely we can 'top' that to get a referendum on the provisions of this E.U. Treaty - which has already been promised us?

-----------------------------

P.S. A question I asked on this Forum a few weeks ago which was never answered by anyone - and I would like to pose it again. Why isn't this poll featured prominently on UKIP's home page of its website? Is UKIP leaving all the campaigning against the Treaty to speakout?

Default Prime Minister's petitions news

Well, today the R J Mansfield petition calling for a referendum on the new E.U. Treaty reached 20th place at around 5.30pm - and is close on 19th now, with 9,668 signatories - another 800-odd today.

Good going - but not nearly so good as the No. 1 petition: "Abolish plans to build a £100 million mega Mosque".

Today alone it attracted 8,000 signatures, taking the number of signatories to date up from 98,000 yesterday to well over 106,000 today.

What a shame it ends on 18th July

Default Over the 10,000 mark

Tonight the R J Mansfield petition calling for a referendum on the E.U. Treaty is up to 18th position, with (at 11pm) 10,197 votes.

(Meanwhile this petition: "Abolish plans to build a £100 million mega Mosque" attracted ten thousand signatures today alone, swelling the total to well over 116,000. It was at 98,000 just 48 hours ago. That's about 1 vote every 8/9 seconds. Shows what can be done)

Default Referendum Petition - latest

The R J Mansfield petition calling for a national referendum on the proposed E.U. petition is now ranked 16th on the Prime Minister's website, with 10542 signatures at the time of posting.

The numbers signing have slackened off after last week's surge.

An indication of how far there is to go is that a petition calling for Jeremy Clarkson to be made Prime Ministe is now ranked 13th, with well over 12,000 signatures (how did the Prime Minister's office allow that facetious petition through in the first place?).

I understand from fellow campaigners for a referendum that there are several instances of organisations that you would expect to at least mention this petition on their websites etc., and have been repeatedly asked to do so by several people - but have failed to respond or have actively refused to even mention this petition on their websites. These include:

1) UKIP's website still fails to mention it despite many requests

2) Ditto - Better Off Out

3) Ditto - Democracy Movement

4) Ditto - Campaign for an Independent Britian.

5) Ditto - The Daily Telegraph, which has its own e-petition

6) Ditto - Conservative Home.

Speakout is the main glorious exception to the rule at this stage - plus the Freedom Association; they mention it on their website. Some of those organisations qutoed above claim they only want to promote their own organisations and petitions.

Can't see why they haven't put it up. I'll be sure to put it on UKIP Cornwall today.

Judging from this:

http://conservativehome.blogs.com/to....html#comments

Conservative Home are commissioning a piece on the referendum and will put up a link to the petition. See the the 3rd and 4th comments.

Default Further update

Pleased to see the last two items of more hopeful news.

I have just received this communication from Dr Denis Cooper, the ex-UKIP member frorm Maidenhead who is a very actively campaigning in support of a referendum on the E.U. Treaty. He wrote:

"The editor (of Conservative Home) has just said that he'll put in a permanent link to the petition, so I hope he keeps his word on that. Quite a good traffic, claimed nearly 37,000 hits one day last week. And not all Tories (in fact as far as comments go Tories may even be in a minority) - some overtly Labour and LibDem visitors and commenters as well. Fingers crossed!"

Meanwhile the petition againt the 'Mega Mosque' has soared to over 123,000...with just 10 voting days to go.

I bet it tops 150,000...
