I don't think it is apathy though, I think it is more to do with people not knowing the facts.
Getting the anti-EU message across an EU-funded BBC which cannot broadcast descent, a right-wing media busy cuddling up to Camerons Tories whilst they head for GE victory, and a left-wing Mirror which believe everything Gordon Brown says, is like being a target-driven police officer. You have one hand tied behind your back. I know it is hard but I seriously think if people knew the facts then things could change. The Sun's excellent campaign for a referendum was a great example of how the public can take notice, and more importantly shows how the majority of British people don't want us to be governed by the foreign EU

Ordinarily, I wouldn't bother with these petitions because they tend to be counter productive and, instead of showing strength of support, indicate the opposite! However, this one seems to have taken off: Petition to: Respect the result of the Irish referendum and abandon the attempt to ratify the Lisbon Treaty. and the current total of signers is almost 16,000 in less than 48 hours. At a conservative estimate, this rate of support should exceed 50,000 by 22nd June. I believe that the petition against road tolls was influential in deterring government. this has the potential to be equally effective! Yes, Brown & Co may well ignore 50,000 or 500,000 or even 5,000,000 signatures, but let's demonstrate that and make it harder for them. It's so much easier and cheaper than getting up early, getting to a rail/coach station and travelling to London to participate in a mass demonstration! Cynics can get lost on this occasion as far as I'm concerned! - |
