Default National Initiative Party - A Romanian ally of UKIP!?

I asked a while ago whether any of the new entrants MEPs were likely to join the Ind/Dem group and in fact none actually did so. But according to http://eureferendum.blogspot.com/ Romania has a party which if it achieves success in the May elections for the European Parliament will be joining the Ind/Dem group which UKIP is a member of.

I don't follow Romanian politics very closely but they do not appear to have contested the 2004 elections (I don't think they existed at the time) and thus have no representatives in parliament. The website has some stuff in English but it has not been very well translated & does not appear to be especially anti-EU; but I'm certain Richard North would not have said they would join Ind/Dem unless he knew what he was talking about.

The latest opinion poll puts them on 1.5% for national elections but does not separate out their likely share for the european elections. If they are indeed 'eurosceptic' I wish them every success in the forthcoming elections and hope to see some more members of Ind/Dem in May. I'll keep checking up on developments between now and then & will try to post anything major here.

Default Support for anti-EU party in Romania can only go UP

One thing's for sure - there may only be a small anti-EU party in Romania now. But one day it will be very big.

There was a time when there were no eurosceptics in Holland. Now they are a rising force and, of course, did much to deliver the 'No' vote in the 2005 EU Constitution referendum.
