Default Attempt to cut EU waste mountain

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6355845.stm

Quote:
Members of the European Parliament are on Tuesday expected to vote in favour of binding targets to reduce the amount of waste produced in the EU.
The parliament's environment committee wants waste production stabilised by 2012 and scaled back by 2020.

The proposal is expected to be approved by the parliament, but rejected by the EU's member states.

Each EU citizen produces more than 500kg of waste per year, of which only about one third is recycled on average.

However, recycling rates vary widely, with some countries recycling more than half of their municipal waste, and others less than 10%.
Quote:
Now you get to find out what those chips in your bin are for.

But Caroline Jackson MEP, who is responsible for guiding the legislation through the European Parliament, points out that the alternative to incineration is often disposal of waste in landfill sites, where it produces methane - a gas with a greenhouse effect 21 times stronger than carbon dioxide.
Which can be collected, burned and used for energy itself. These Greenies really are getting themselves in a pickle. Not forgetting of course that most recycling is actually just shipped off to China.

It simply amazes me that Britain has sub-contracted out our enviromental policy to a bunch of hippies, leftists and ecofascists that dominate the EU running of this, because surprise surprise, they are the ones most interested in it.

Default Power hungry meddlers

These people - power-hungry meddlers - need to be stopped. 'Green' issues are just an excuse for expanding their own power base and taking on responsibilities to justify their generous salaries. What will their pet subject be in a few years time - the threat of an ice age?

As for Jackson (the 'Conservative' MEP married to former MP Robert Jackson who defected from the Conservatives to Labour) her very presence in the UK Conservative group in Brussels makes many strongly eurosceptic Conservatives vote UKIP in EU Elections.
