Default EU to Nicaragua: “No Abortions, No Aid”

http://www.brusselsjournal.com/node/1895

Quote:
Representatives from the European Union are increasing pressure on the government of Nicaragua to reverse its recent law which unilaterally forbids abortion under any circumstances. According to a report from the Catholic News Agency, the EU representation has threatened to withdraw economic assistance to the country if the abortion law is not reversed. [...]

Marc Litvine, the EU representative to Nicaragua, said that the EU regards legalized abortion as “linked to aid programs against poverty and to the rights of women”. He expressed hope that “the new government will be capable of opening the debate and discussing it outside the passion of the electoral season.” [...]

Litvine commented on the new government and its support of the pro-life legislation saying, “That’s where I see one of the contradictions of the new government; it claims to be progressive, very modern, and it is going backwards because for us [the pro-life law] is a step back.”
Yes this sounds like the EU, telling other countries what morals to adhere too.

True to EU form, if the voters don't like it you find a way of ignoring the vote.

Default EU meddling again in nations outside EU

The report in the first posting to this thread confirms two things. That the EU is increasing the amount of meddling in the affairs of non-EU nations. And that the EU is further away from its Catholic roots than it has ever been.

This sort of thing helps Roman Catholics (RC) people such as myself warn other followers of the RC faith that the EU is their enemy as well as the enemy of so many others.

I am glad MKPD has posted that report on the forum.

Exactly. The EU should not have been providing economic assistance.

What do you expect the Commissioners are primarily Communists or atheists , the only openly Christian nominee for Commissioner last time around was forced to withdraw by the Socialist/ Liberal groups which dominate parliament.

Default EU 'aid' to Nicaragua

Perhaps some EU country is getting benefits from trade with Nicaragua on the condition that it gets the EU to give Nicaragua 'aid' in return.

One thing's for sure, it won't be this country. The EU wouldn't give aid to a non-EU nation if the giving of that money helped the UK.
