Default Germany Calls for 'Purity Law' for Wine

http://www.tahlequahdailypress.com/a.../d8ek3s401.txt

Quote:
BRUSSELS, Belgium - The European Union approved a trans-Atlantic agreement on U.S. wine imports INTO phpbb_a glutted European market Tuesday, but Germany called for the imposition of a "purity law" to protect European wines from U.S. vintners practices.

German Farm Minister Horst Seehofer said that a new EU code needed to be applied to assure the quality of European wines and that practices such as adding water to dilute the alcohol and aging wine with woodchips to improve flavor were unacceptable.

"Adding wood chips to wine in Europe is just unimaginable in our wine culture," said Seehofer.
This is what I hate so much about the EU. The interfering, when there is **** all need to do so.

Sausages were the same, they wanted to ban the British banger, because things other than meat were put in.

Here is the news you meddling bunch of fascists. As a consumer, I, will decide if I want a full meat sausage or not. If I like and want a wine made with woodchips, then I want the right to buy it. **** off and tell your kids what to do, instead of everyone else.

I actually agree with this one. I don't trust the yanks with anything I put INTO phpbb_my mouth.

For example: I don't buy yank apples - because while you'd think that an apple was suitable for vegetarians some yanks ones aren't... ...they coat 'em with beef to make 'em look nice (even the organic ones).

Fine, so don't buy it!

Or ask for proper labeling.

Banning is bad, unless you can damn well prove it is very bad for you.

It wouldnt only be the excellent US wines that would be hit, it would be Australian,New Zealand, SouthAfrican, Chile etc.
This is simply the knee jerk reaction of European businesses that can no longer survive without protection because their costs are high and their productivity low. If you dont believe this why is a wine from Germany or France the same price as a non EU one which has shipped from the other side of the world.

Problem is, some yank state courts have actually banned proper labelling. Yep, that's right, it's actually illegal to label something as organic or GM free.

I get where you're coming from and agree, but until the yanks "get it" there remains a problem.

Well then Britain can required the importers to do the labeling, or they can't import it.

There are ways and means.
