Pipsqueak Jose Manuel Barroso said on 21.9.2005 that the EU won’t have a constitution “for at least two or three years”. He further conceded that the “treaty” was not likely to be ratified soon.
“We must (still) convince citizens of the relevance of the EU by creating jobs, improving security and protecting the environment” stated Barroso. In other words – keep the whole rotten EU show on the road so he and the rest of the 39, 000 pampered EU staff can carrying on collecting their bloated salary cheques at the end of each month for doing *** all. Barroso’s remarks are clearly designed to knock people off the scent. If he and the rest of the shower that is the EU Commission can persuade people that the EU Constitution is delayed – then the power-hungry EU hierarchy can get on with implementing all the key parts of the EU Constitution through other channels (re-naming certain projects that were included in the EU Constitution to reduce suspicion) - whilst the innocent public are looking the other way. Barroso's comments are total guff. He can't wait for the British Presidency to end so he and his loony power-grabbing europhile colleagues can get on with "the project". P.S. Barroso also referred (above) to “citizens”. Well, we’re Subjects in the UK. I don’t think Her Majesty will be too pleased to read of this talk from the EU of “citizens”. The people of the Monarchies such as the UK, Holland, Spain, Denmark and Luxemberg (deliberately spelt the English way) are not “citizens”. Perhaps Barroso – coming from a Republic (Portugal) and now working for another Republic (EU) is too thick to see the difference. Source of Barroso’s remarks: as reported on BBC 1 Television, Ceefax at 9.15 pm on 21.9.2005, page 115 (analogue) “Votes (of French/Dutch Referendums) put EU Treaty on ice” |

It's going to make our task of gathering signatures harder if the public believe its gone away, which I think is partly the point of the statements coming out of Brussels - they don't want anybody else holding referendums.
40% of the public in a recent poll said they were no longer interested in a referendum as they didnt see the need. Tucked up, as Arfur would say.
