    Why?
Sophistication? Sophistication? Don't talk to me about sophistication, I've been to Leeds!

The BNP have done very well in traditional working class areas that have seen an influx of immigration without any consideration to the communities there. Sure I know of Richard Barnbrook's success but I still enjoy a rich and colourfull London of tolerance and understanding. Te most cosmopolitan city in the world it just may be and I for one will fight to keep it that way. The middle class voters you mention I don't know too much about to be honest but I do know our classification of class itself must always shift in regard to current social and political climates. Possibly those middle-class folk you speak of are looking at some sort of 'relegation' for want of a better word and are sympathetic to these sentiments.
I've lived and worked in London and I don't recognise your description.

The city is a great sprawl with no sense of community whatsoever. "Tolerance" simply means that people (wisely) keep themselves to themselves and don't concern themselves with the affairs of others.

What understanding do you suppose the residents of Mayfair have for those who live in Brixton or Tower Hamlets?

I live in Herne Hill, not too far from Brixton. My nest door neighbours on one side are a lovely Ugandan family, the other side is an elderly English lady. My local shop is run by a fantastically friendly pakistani family. I used to work for a gay American until I hurt my back. My flat mate and very good friend is a recent immigrant from Poland. I was in a pub in Brixton the other night sat around a table with a Scouser, a Scotsman, a Nigerian, a Japanese and two South African ladies, one white, one black. We talked politics, philosophy and stand-up comedy. Sunday I was playing chess in the local park with a friend of mine enjoying the laughter and play of many families of all colours and creeds playing together around us. I don't think there was a race that was not represented there.
I have in the space of the last month enjoyed a festival of everything Spanish on Regent street, frequented the beautiful mixed madness of Brick Lane, Witnessed a transvestite cabaret, been to a free screening of a fantastic new documentary 'enjoy poverty' exploring serious issues in The Congo, enjoyed a night of experimental Hip Hop in Brixton, eaten the best Thai curry of my life from the takaway around the corner, visited a remarkable exhibition of Islamic art at the Saatchi gallery and gotten sh*t faced drunk with friends from varying ethnic lines with rich and exciting incites into this huge, weird, dark and wonderful world around us.
Damn I'm glad I live in London.
I am sorry you had such a bad time in London Sir, maybe your not as open as I to new experiences perhaps?

    Cracker.
Nice one for spotting my little joke there Sir. I am however a little disappointed at the lack of serious discourse on this thread. I'm brand new to this forum so don't really know the lay of this land. Perhaps you can help me. Does anybody here follow a reasonable line of debate or is it just a kind of platform to vent ones personal dislikes?
This 'parody' of multiculturalism has worked for me so far. My God how boring white, British people are on mass.

All I can say is, thank goodness I don't live up north. Not only is it grim and cold but now it's officially racist too.

With all due respect that post was the most cringeworthy thing I've ever read.
