Differences like the AVERAGE intelligence quotient between the races, AVERAGE brain size which helps to determine people's temper levels, propensity towards using violence against another person ect. There are other differences too such as the fact that blacks are more likely to get certain diseases than whites are.

I'm afraid you've totally misunderstood this whole Bell Curve thing.

The Bell Curve is a controversial U.S. book about intelligence. On the basis of sensationalist media reports, when it came out it was denounced as racist by some on the left and embraced by some on the far right as providing scientific proof that they and their bumbling hate-filled chums constituted some sort of Master Race.

The book actually doesn't say much about race. It is mainly concerned with the connection between intelligence and socio-economic status (it presents statistical evidence that brighter people tend to make more money on the whole - who'd have thunk it??) and with the factors which lead to an individual being more or less intelligent within the overall distribution of intelligences within any given population. The authors claim that the distribution of intelligence is a statistically normal curve (a 'bell curve'). They say that an individual's place within that curve is due both to genetics and environment.

The bit about race is in one or two chapters where they say that IQ scores for African-Americans are on average lower than for white Americans. They suggest that the difference may be due to both genetics and environment, and the "genetics" part is taken by some to mean racial differences. However, they also say that the connection between genetics and race is unclear.

A few points:
1) Average IQ scores keep rising steeply decade by decade. This is happening far too quickly to be due to evolutionary pressures (ie genetic changes) so presumably it is due entirely to environmental changes. It is also why Mensa's claim that only 2% or so of people can pass its membership test is about 30 years out of date. These days it is about 20%.
2) Poor people tend to score lower on IQ tests than rich people. There is lots of evidence that if you have a wonderful upbringing, good education, good nutrition, and a stimulating career then you will end up scoring higher on IQ tests than your identical twin who was stolen at birth, grew up in a sink estate and now lives entirely on hamburgers and fries in between repetitive shift work as a cleaner at the local chemical plant.
3) African-Americans tend to be poorer than white Americans. On average.
4) Therefore there are strong NON-RACIAL reasons to expect that African-Americans on average would score lower than white Americans.
5) It follows from (2) and (3) that if African-Americans were to get the same educational, nutritional and economic advantages as white folks, then the difference in average IQ-scores would certainly shrink sharply and might even be reversed. I'm pretty sure that the authors of The Bell Curve would accept that. I'm pretty sure that the BNP publicity department wouldn't, but then I think I can guess which end of the normal distribution they occupy anyway.

If I accept your premises, that these differences exist, what is to say that they are based on genetics and not culture, or relative wealth. I'm aware that some studies show that Blacks have a lower average IQ than caucasians but I think it is entirely explainable by other factors - the fact is, most children in Africa never have the opportunity to receive a good quality education that most European and North American children benefit from. Likewise, a large number of Afro American's in the United States grow up in a dysfunctional family setting, in poverty, and with poor access to quality education. To think that they will score similarly on an IQ test to Caucasian Americans is ridiculous.

In any event I'm not sure that genetic differences between the races would lead to the conclusion that we must deport everyone who is not caucasian from our shores. After all if you premise is correct and some races are less prone to outbursts of temper or have a higher average IQ wouldn't we want them to stay here and interbreed with the indigenous population so that they, over time we would all benefit from these advantages.

With respect to different races being susceptible to different diseases what are the policy implications in your view?

Many black Americans aren't born into poverty and don't come from poor backgrounds yet they still have lower average IQs than white Americans from similar social-economic backgrounds. How can this be explained other than genetic factors?


How is it that so many black african countries are so poorly run when their leaders have had good educations (some of whom have been to Oxford and Cambridge)?
