Default Wind Turbines-Again

I read -or heard- a few days ago that because of the strong winds we have had recently Wind Turbines in some areas of our country were turned off. Rotational speed?
Like John Prescott-expensive to maintain and very little output-what are they for?

This shower in power want to build at least another 20, 000 wind turbine eyesores to meet EU targets on 'renewable' energy.

Beautiful Glyndebourne is now threatened with one - local people there are opposing the plan.

Labour recently cut the subsidy to homeowners who want to put up solar panels.

This useless Government is obsessed with these dreadful ugly wind turbines.

The 3 turbines at the front of my flat have been stationary all week because of high winds, today,we have no wind and they are stationary for lack of wind.

I will start to make a graph showing daytime operation of these white elephants.

Good idea.
Excel is a good tool for doing just that.

True. I am among those who do not like the look of wind turbines.

I think many people (me included) prefer solar - but, as I mentioned earlier, the Labour Government has cut solar subsidies.

Today is Saturday,day#6, and windless, all three wind turbines are still stationary.

I would set a night camera on them if I could but vision would be a problem.

Maybe my daughters garden would be the place, only about 5/600 yards from the general area the 3 turbines are located in.

Day #7 and the 3 turbines are still producing nothing at all.

If the wind comes we will get a bit out of them I hope, but at what cost?

Were are the rest of the mad march winds, hope they don't come back and shut down production again?

Anecdotal, and a personal view....
Mrs B and I were driving to Caen in Normandy from Calais.
We pulled off the highway at a rest area. It was very basic. His and her loos. And a wind turbine. It was quite foggy and we didn't actually notice the wind turbine until we got back to the car. It looked majestic (in our opinion) towering out of the mist.
Mrs B has always loved the look of them. Eye of the beholder, you see.
(I don't suppose she married me just for my looks..........)
That's the aesthetics.

I do also have some technical and commercial interest in these (and other) generation systems, in particular the power conversion side.

But, in my opinion, renewable sources have quite some way to go before they become a significant proportion of our power generation capacity.
