February coldest for 50 years so far - Local - General - Daily Liberal

Quote:
Dubbo has experienced the coldest February in more than 50 years so far and if historical trends are anything to go by it’s been about five degrees colder than it should be.

The average maximum temperature so far this month has been 27.5 degrees, while previous years have shown an average of 32 degrees. The last lowest average maximum temperature recorded for February was 28 degrees, which occurred in 1956.

There seems to be a GLOBAL trend going on here.

I wonder if I can find an 11 year old to help we work out what it is.

I'm sure all the weather reporters will be most hurt at your comments.

Reporting the truth must seem like drivel to fascists.

You mean like the global 'trend' in 1998, which so many sceptics claimed didn't mean global warming wasn't happening?
And they were correct. One year, or two years, or a decade, is not enough to infer a trend in something like the Earth's climate.

And the global trend since 1970?
And the global trend since 1850?

I wonder what the average temperature for this year will be...

icCoventry - Heat is on for another record

Quote:
The bizarre weather pattern which the region has experienced this year - from huge rainstorms, massive hailstones and scorching summer temperatures - is down to global warming, according to an expert.

Barry Meatyard, an administrator at the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth at Warwick University, has a background in climate change research.

He said: "On its own you shouldn't look too much into the fact that it has been the warmest September on record unless it's part of a wider trend.

"But the 10 warmest years on record for the northern hemisphere have been in the last 11 years, so the signs are it's part of an overall pattern."
Quote:
So far this year, Coventry has had the coldest winter in nine years and the coldest spring for five years, while at the other end of the spectrum the city has had the hottest summer on record and the warmest June and July since at least 1892.

Going back to a post I made a long time ago covering regional trends:

1779 10.4
1828 10.3
1834 10.47
1868 10.38
1921 10.47
1949 10.62
1959 10.48
1989 10.5
1990 10.63

1997 10.53
1998 10.34
1999 10.63
2000 10.3
2002 10.6
2003 10.5
2004 10.48
2005 10.44
2006 10.82

In the entirety of the eighteenth century only three years made the top twenty; the highest got to 14th hottest.
That year was 1733.

In the entirety of the nineteenth century only three years made the top twenty; the highest got to 13th hottest.
That year was 1834.

In the entirety of the twentieth century nine years made the top twenty; the highest got to 2nd hottest.
That year was 1999.

In the twenty-first century thus far we've had six years make the top twenty; the highest got to the rank of hottest year.
That year was 2006.

Of the ten hottest years, seven occurred within the last decade.

This is only the dataset for Central England, so it's not firm evidence of global warming.
However, it does show how smaller regions can indicate a pretty firm trend, the collective evidence of which can be used to help support the idea that a definite trend in a larger region is occurring at the same time.

I think you might be right, especialy looking at the global trends that now show global temperatures dropping back to levels of 100 years ago.

Absolutely no clue if they peaked or not I'm no expert for sure! Just answering the question of how such cold weather could be happening in a global warming situation, which that link attempts to answer.
I don't know if global warming is man made or some natural occurance. Again I'm no expert and good luck getting the experts can't decide on a clear answer. For every article found that says it is happening, just as many can be found saying it isn't. Take it for what you will.
