A friend of mine is a rocket engineer and has a craft in space at the moment (he's part of ESA) using ionised xenon as the basis of it's power. It accelerates very slowly, but is hard to stop when it gets going.

The first step is colonisation of the Moon as a place from which to jumpstart exploration, but that will take years. It is going to be the survivors of whatever catastrophe hits in the not too near future who will make the leap.

Somehow, I don't think Nu Labour's support for MMGW goes that far.
More to the point - nor would the majority of the people and it is they who must vote for a government which would cut our ties to the EU if any change is to take place.

Don't get your hopes up - the bankers would never allow our borrow, spend and consume levels to decrease. Without borrowing, spending and consuming, there's literally no money supply.

I would like to see a serious and thorough drive launched to find and locate all illegal immigrants (i.e where they live and work - if they work) leading to their speedy removal (i.e. within days). There are at least a million of them here and some think more. A new agency may have to be set up to deal with this.

I would also like to see the electoral registers properly checked so that any included on them who should not be on them (i.e. possibly illegal immigrants) are removed.

Yep. All this guff from the government about MMGW isn't very convincing when immigrants are flying here by the stadium-load, is it?

Not forgetting, of course, that usually those immigrants fly back home 2-4 times per year to go see family.

Illegal imigrants would leave the country if asked to do via adverts in the national and local press and other media.

Many want to leave now but are afraid of being apprehended at airports or ferry ports and having their possessions confiscated when trying to exit the country.

A statement of an amnesty over a 100 day period or so may bring surprising results, its worth a try by the Government,if they really are serious about removing them all, surely.

Certainly removing illegals plus those from the EU if we could get out would be a good start. Although compulsory sterilization after two children [everyone just replaced themselves] would not be acceptable - it might be the only choice eventually. However, a government programme encouraging this could create pressure on those to refrain from breeding like rabbits.

So, what about stopping gay couples from exercising their "rights" to spend tax payers' money on HRT and all that guff, then?

It's never going to happen. The powers that be need growth (of all kinds, including population) to maintain their system.

I was working on the basis that, if some common view were established, it might provide the seeds for some new political force - there is certainly a great need and I suspect one will come into being in the not to distant future.

For me it is the only purpose for discussion.

Exactly.

If this Labour mob in power really want cuts in carbon emissions the last thing they should be doing is increasing the size of the population.

Clearly importing people who they think will gratefully vote for Labour in thanks for their British passports is more important to them than cutting pollution.
