Default Envirofascists rejoice at the end of an era

I wonder if I should keep mine now, seeing as it's being killed off.

I don't know of anyone who is rejoicing at the demise of this iconic car.

Same with Jeep - effectively, you can no longer get a petrol engine model in the EU (except for a crappy CVT model and a limited edition).

CVTs are galaxies better than slushboxes.

The same here.

I may be what mkpdavies and others would call an 'envirofascist', which they seem to label virtually every proponent of the man-made global warming theory, but why would I rejoice about such a tragic loss?
Please stop insulting us.

In my view an "envirofascist" is not simply someone who religiously believes in MMGW, but believes in the destruction of freedom based on pro-MMGW or other environmentalist philosophies.

Ah; so there we have an insult against the more mild proponents of the man-made global warming theory.
'... an "envirofascist" is not simply someone who religiously believes in MMGW'
Directed at those who are simly concerned about the idea that man-made global warming is happening,

'... but believes in the destruction of freedom based on pro-MMGW or other environmentalist philosophies.'
How nice. And tell me: how many people on this forum do that; going by your comments and those of some other members of this forum, half the people here.
Also: how do you define the 'destruction of freedom'?

Actually Akria, I think NoMoreEUSSR was implying that, in his view at least, you arn't an envirofascist.

Being an environmentalist is necessary but not suffcient; you also have to desire the destruction of freedom.

I think that's quite a fair description of the term.

You got it.

Even if there really is such a thing as MMGW - and there could be - how significant is it and can we really do anything about it? Reducing the West's "carbon footprint" by 1% or whatever doesn't mean much as the Chinese simultaneously triple theirs.

Now, there are many good reasons to oppose such evils as deforestation without invoking the MMGW argument, so you'll often find me sympathetic to the greenies on these issues.

Overdeforestation was a major factor in the self-destruction of many past societies. (ref J. Diamond)
