Well the fools in Lampeter have overlooked something, we don't just use crude oil for fuel. It i used in most, (Dare I say all household products?) made from hydrocarbons. There is also the fact that it just won't work!

If Lampeter manage to go 100% oil free, while still being self sufficient in food and goods, (we need nasty oil sucking vehicles to import things), without becoming a tribe of cavemen, I will eat my hat.

Default Welsh town rejects the euro

Welsh towns/villages can be innovative. It was a Welsh town/village a few years ago which became the first in the UK to use the euro (in an experimental trial of usage of the european single currency in the UK). It was also the same Welsh town which became the first to reject the euro - in a referendum of locals. The result was announced live on the main news on ITV 1 8) .

I don't know if it is a terribly efficient means of producing oil.
I was in South Africa when sanctions were in place. There was no shortage of fuel, despite this. It was an open secret that oil was being illegally imported. As somebody there put it (reference to oil being known as black gold):
"As long as we have the red kind, we can import the black kind."
