One probable result of melting of the polar ice caps is that the Gulf Stream will be adversely affected, which would hit the British Isles very hard. That would, actually, be bad. |

Colder? More snow? Great, I love driving my Jeep in the snow. Warmer? More sun? Great, I love looking at summer-clothes clad women. Wetter? Great, I love the rain. Stormier? Great, I love a bit of thunder. Coastal flooding? Great, I never did like Norfolk. As Billy Connolly once said: "There's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes". |

If I have to explain to you why the Gulf stream is so important to the British Isles, then with all due respect I suggest that you ought not to be commenting publically on this issue. I wouldn't like you to embarrass yourself any more than I would want you to expose UKIP's main weakness. |

It is impossible to state exactly what the impact of polar melting would be on the Gulf Stream, or even if we knew precisely, then we would still not be able to state definitively what the effect would be on the British Isles. There are too many uncertainties, which is why models used by scientists to predict such phenomena are generally agreed to be inherently flawed. Its also why the weather forecast always seems to be a bit wrong.
If we dropped a nuclear bomb over your home town it would be impossible to state precisely what the effects would be. Air temperature, humidity, wind direction and strength, even light conditions, all would have an effect on the result. Having said that, the information we do have would be sufficient to tell us that it would not be a particularly pleasant experience for you, or for your neighbours. Same with cutting off the Gulf Stream. Finally, I'm glad you are not in UKIP. |
