It seems to me the most obvious and direct solution is to find ways of reducing our dependance on consuming vast quantities of fossil fuels - this is not liked by the vested interest of giant coporations [which our government and the EU appear to be trying to appease] as it reduces their profit potential.

That's only valid if you accept co2 is the big differentiator, which I and many others don't.

The fact I want to see less reliance on oil and it's by-products for more solid reasons, is neither here nor there.

It's in Britains interest - whether or not GW is man made.

As I have previously said - I do not know not having a background in science - but the view that GW is caused by the excessive use of burning fossil fuels is a movement which has become virtually unstoppable and we should take advantage of this - not by following the governments line with carbon trading and international agreements, but by facing the problem directly.

There would be enormous support from the voters for a party which declared war on the excess users of fossil fuel [which conveniently are, in the main, non British firms!

I disagree. You start with firm, logical and realistic foundations based on fact, not whipped up hysteria.

That way, when the hysteria is proven wrong (say possibly), or moves on to something else, then your policies still hold firm.

A firm logical position is to argue the case for self dependence. If you want to tag on at the end, and this may have side benefits in the blah blah blah arena espoused by many one world goverment left wing fanatics, then so be it.

I do believe that GW is much caused by man's activities. GW is not good news for anyone - it is so restricting - I do believe that the government is jumping on the bandwagon to use it to introduce green taxes rather than rationing which is a far more honest approach as it assures less fossil fuels are used - taxes does not ensure this reduction - it just puts prices up!

Problem is man is a very greedy animal and only thinks of how things will affect him personally. In fifty years time there will be very few people alive who are now over fifty years old, so unless things become life threatening I doubt much will be done! I would imagine laying on your deathbed, you'd be worried that Heaven if there is one might be as dull as it sounds and that Hell if there is one might be even hotter than we've been led to believe! What we've left regarding Global warming, I doubt will enter our heads!
