Persuade is fine, argue the point is fine.

Trying to shut me up by calling me thick, paid for by oil companies, incapable of understanding numbers etc, not fine. Fascist.

I still maintain, the thrust of the "people did it" argument, is based on flawed, arguable science, put forward by interests who want to selfishly use it to control others.

Yes there are some genuine people who are convinced that we are doing it, it is bad and there is something we can do about it. I will argue they are wrong all day and every time people tell me to shut up, I will call them fascist.

You believe in forcing private establishments to ban smoking, thus forcing your way on them, so I don't expect you to think any differentely on other subjects.

But calling them fascist for disagreeing with your opinion is hardly conducive to a mature, civilised, rational, and constructive discussion.

Don't you think that DH had a very good point when he posted:

Do you really thinking calling people fascists will convince them you have a rational objection to the science behind global warming ?

That's not the reason I call them fascist. Trying to shut me up is and I stand by that accurate apraisal.

No, because he like you doesn't understand why I label a whole section of climate alarmist as fascists.

Who asked you to shut up?
Who even tried to shut you up?
You are the gobbiest member here by far.
Attempting to get you to shut up would be totally pointless.

So you don't understand what the word means.

"Fascism (IPA: [ˈfæː.ʃɪ.zm̩]) is a political ideology and mass movement that seeks to place the nation, defined in exclusive biological, cultural, and/or historical terms, above all other sources of loyalty, and to create a mobilized national community"

I believe that we should have safety regulations covering people's working environments. Do you believe that is wrong ?
Or do you think we should have no health and safety regulations ?
Whether smoking should be included is of course a matter of opinion (as are of course all health and safety regulations).

Personally I think that the people who most convince me of global warming are those who are most against the idea. The reverse is also true !

Exactly. So your telling someone they can't drive their Range Rover because of global warming is you putting the good of the nation (or, by socialist extension, the planet) above the freedom of the individual. Just like Mussolini.

The term fascism was first used by Benito Mussolini, and it comes from the Italian word fascio, which means "union" or "league"

I have never told people they can not drive Range Rovers.
Here is another definition of fascism :-
"Since Mussolini, however, there have been many conflicting definitions of the term "fascism." Merriam-Webster defines fascism as "a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition""

Very few people believe the solution to global warming is the forcible suppression of opposition - do you think friends of the earth want to kill you ?
(BTW that definition sounds very much like an Islamic republic).

Thanks John.

I guess I should have expected a fascist view on what fascist means from someone who wants to demand private establishments play by their own rules. The fact no one is forced to work for them doesn't seem to matter.

He would probably demand strip Clubs be forced to allow women to remain fully clothed if they want to, becuase of their religion etc.

Interesting how those most interested in pushing the GW voodoo are also those most interested in "wealth redistribution" and "social justice", no?

No, but I believe they'd ban me from driving my Jeep in an instant if they could have their way.

It never does, does it? Not one of the anti-smoking fascists (anywhere) has yet answered the following question properly:

If a smoking landlord employing smoking staff with a 100% smoking client base wants to allow smoking in his pub - which happens to be located 500 miles away from you and which you don't even know exists... ...what's it got to do with you?

Of course, if the appropriate word "fascism" is too strong for their dainty little constitutions, I suggest replacing it with "totalitarian donketbonnet".
