On a more general note, it is fairly basic physics.
The basic unit of energy is the Joule (J). It is the equivalent of 1 Watt (W) for 1 second. It needs 4200J to raise 1 litre of water by 1 deg C. The rest is just arithmetic.

But all sorts of people reject the overwhelming majority of learned scientific opinion on topics like global warming without even this basic knowledge of physics.

I agree with your conversion to litres as 1.4E+21. I didn't bother to count all the zeros, but I assume they are correct. That being so, I agree with your figure of 5.92E+21 kJ for a 1degC rise.

Taking your second post you say that 0.5 kJ per day, a very large estimate as you say, would result in a rise of 1degC in 8.4 days. No dissent there.
If you take a fraction of a Joule, say 0.1J, that would result in a 1degC change in about 115 years. Which is not hugely different than that observed over the past 100 years.

Primarily for the benefit of others who post here, I have not posted this to make any political point nor to draw any specific conclusion other than what I posted above.
WYSIWYG.
In that case we still have about 175 years to sort it out before it's too late to reverse it.
To be honest, I didn't bother working out how long it would take at a rate such as you suggested. I just felt that I ought to point out that it's a tremendous amount of energy and that the advert didn't mention that.

Without doing the math, I'd agree with your figure of about 115 years. It looks about right .

I'll admit that I'm concerned about global warming. I think that it's a real and quite serious problem. The only thing that annoys me are those who would have that we all run around screaming in fear, or those who don't give us all the necessary information. Quoting from Dilbert:

News presenter: "Studies show that most people have strong opinions on these subjects despite the fact that we provide no useful contextual data."
Dogbert: "I've got to stop watching scary shows before I go to bed."

It is scary how many people make judgements and form opinions with no useful data, or how often they do but the data is taken out of context.

Hartlepool and kernow:
I don't see why you're complaining about besoeker's posts when, comparing his first in this topic and my starter, mine's even more complex. In any case, if you feel that it's too complex for you, then stay out of the topic and don't post such unwarranted criticism. Those with intelligence can stay and discuss the topic, and they have the right to do it without uneeded interruptions or insults.
I realise that I may be overreacting with that rather short rant, but I feel very strongly about allowing intelligent people to have intelligent discussions in peace.

Oh, and I am quite pleased that you posted here, besoeker. It makes a refreshing change to talk to an intellectual as compared with most of mankind*.

Akria
Thank you for that.
But I'm not in any way an intellectual.
I'm an electrical engineer, mathematician, and professional grumpy old man.
I just try to get things right.
