I should have asked if it was "quite normal" for seawater to freeze over in the UK?
It’s not particularly unusual for sea-water to freeze in the UK, although as commonsense dictates, the north & east of the UK are areas more prone as are sheltered Scottish bays.

Sea-water starts to freeze at about -2 deg C but it is a dynamic process and much colder air temperatures are needed to keep it going substantially. It also helps the freezing process if the water is largely static, as might be the case in Hartlepool marina if it is free from circulating coastal currents & tidal effects.

On the other hand, I believe people in & around Moscow are getting highly depressed since no snow has fallen there yet. Apparently, a good blanket of snow, followed by clear weather reflects light into the air and counteracts SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). – seriously !!

In much of Siberia, whereas the typical temperature should now be approaching – 15 to -20 deg C, it is only about -2 to – 3 deg.

(And I saw a postman in Chester yesterday still wearing shorts !!!!)

We saw hundreds of people yesterday in Chester/Northwich who were well wrapped up.

I nearly froze my nads off scraping the thick ice off my car this a.m.

Winter has arrived. We have lovely freezing fog this a.m too.

We have -3 and freezing fog.

The sea has been like a real millpond for four days now,not even a ripple on a rising tide.

Nobody has ever known the marina to freeze over before.

Some of the boats coming back form deep sea say the seas are very flat and calmed.

We've had the freezing fog for two days now, so it seems to be working it's way steadily south.

A few days of seasonal weather. No big deal. To quote a prolific poster:

Just commenting that winter isn't canceled this year, as some of the fear mongerers such as yourself like to promote.

Default Cold

I am convinced it's far colder now than it was on this day a year ago  . Doesn't exactly fit in with the eco-bullies theory of global warming.

The reality is the change in this country is very slight from year to year. Just natural variation could cover any of the weather we have had so far.

With the poles shifting and the earths axis moving slightly all the time, I would be amazed if we didn't see some changes in seasons and weather over the years.

People hate change though, it scares them. That is why the worlds power elite like to use it as a control mechanism, just like they use other types of fear.

Sadly the human being still hasn't evolved enough for the masses to understand this. They will do one day, hopefuly.
