In case anyone was wondering, last time it snowed there was 1979, that was the first time in recorded history - which is probably not that long for the Algerian Sahara.
Perhaps this is what David Viner meant when he said "Our children will not know what snow is", perhaps he said 'Algerians will not know what snow is' and we all misheard it. Well, even if he did he has been proven wrong again hasn't he !?

    It snows in Egypt
Sallie Pisch | 13 December 2010 | Comments (0) CAIRO: Flurries of snow drifted over the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria Sunday evening, leaving a dusting on streets and cars.

Doesn't seem to be too unusual.

Egypt is nowhere near Algeria though. Even though it is strange that Man Made Global Warming is causing Snow and cold weather on the African Continent. Who knows, perhaps we will soon be getting the blame for the cold weather too.
Snow in Africa is a rare event, in Egypt snow is usually limited to the mountain peaks.

I've never been to Mount Kenya but I've read that it gets a bit of snow there.

Bit further south and warmer but snow in Alexandria is not extraordinary. Florida gets snow and frost occasionally too at same latitude, on the warm Gulf Stream.

Aren't the Atlas mountains in mostly Morocco, and literally on the edge of the Sahara - I think they have snow every year.

(I've tried repeatedly to persude Mrs C. to have a trekking holiday in the Atlas foothills but so far without success )
Denial is a defense mechanism in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence.
Denial is a mechanism of the immature mind, because it conflicts with the ability to learn from and cope with reality.

This and the recent snows in Algeria, etc seem to make this peice of alarmist nonsense even more nonsense.
However I am sure that the dedicated alarmists here will have something to say

A bit of snow is alarming? Peer reviews show many photos of it, and the Sahara has frosts at night.
"a trekking holiday in the Atlas foothills" : tell Mrs C that foothills are made for walking.
