Default Enough natural gas to supply Irish needs for 12 years

Another very significant shale gas fracking opportunity. There is plenty of opposition but Ireland will surely not be able to resist the temptation of secure gas supplies coupled with the jobs and tax returns that are promised to come with it. It would be good to see a level-headed approach to fracking but as with most environmental issues this seems impossible.

I saw a bit on the news the other day about the "earthquakes" that resulted from fracking, or so they presume. It was very small, and really nothing to be worried about. No worse than a lorry driving past a house. What was of concern were the chemicals that were pumped underground. Not sure what they are made of, but believe there are nearly 600 with some being carcinogenic. That appears to be of greater concern, what with the danger of contaminating ground water, than "earthquakes".

Sounds about right but if fracking is carried out correctly and cleanly and proper geological studies are done there should be no serious chance of contamination either.

The government seems to be taking the right approach to suspend more fracking until some confidence is gained with the operators here. The scaremongering from the Greens is backfiring in Balcombe, the latest fracking possibility not far from me, though people are still concerned. Similar scare stories abounded when oil drilling was proposed near Goodwood in the Downs but that turned out to be very clean and most people have forgotten it is going on.

I think the early fracking was done in locations close to the surface and in dry areas. If it's done in wet places and deep underground the chance of gas seeping upwards into to water table is a lot lower.

Although the problems with geothermal power bringing up toxic minerals in Iceland did suprise me...
I've finally got a web site to work!! See my page thingy.
