Default Worrying

Just one small comment.
I find it strange indeed that a small party of English patriots are deemed to warrant such vitriolic attack from people who purport to have the interests of their country at heart. It would appear that the English Democrats pose greater threat than the main parties. Why do we English turn on our own rather than face the enemy? Is this the inevitable fallout of political correctness or is it peculiar to this forum and due to personal conflicts. Either way appears self-destructive.

Who do you think are the actual enemy and what is your evidence for saying they are too tough?

I'm an English Unionist, therefore I am diametrically opposed to both the EDs and the Free England Party.

EA> But the EDP support a federal union so are technically unionist don't you think? I've also done some reading up and it seems there is strong calls in your part of the isle for devolution, where does UKIP stand on the stannary parliament?

Couldn't tell you what UKIP's policy is (if they have one), but IMO the Stannary Parliament is nothing more than a joke, to be treated no more seriously than those who spray-paint over English Heritage Roses.

I also don't agree about the 'strong calls' - Mebyon Kernow poll less in General Elections in Cornish constituencies than UKIP do.

If Cornwall were to get devolution along the lines of Scotland/Wales I'd want a new body - not the Stannary Parliament - to be behind it.

Personally, I'd much prefer for all County Councils in England (or where applicable, Unitary Authorities) to be granted greater powers, instead of creating more institutions.

Actually there seems to be a lot more going on then just the Stannary parliament movement and MK. There is the celtic league and sports which I have discovered, the language movement and a plethora of websites and chat forums which seem to be very anti-English.
It would seem it's more then just a few flag slashers and grafitti artists?

Depends on where you look or who you speak to. Support for 'independence' etc online is almost never replicated locally. There is, apparently, significant support for a Cornish Assembly along the lines of the Welsh Assembly, but I can't say this has been my experience, and I don't know how many would vote for such a thing in reality. Given the low amount of support in Wales for their assembly (where of course, they went as far as burning English holiday homes), I would suggest the vote in favour would be very low indeed (taking turnout into account).

Last time I checked (and I admit it was a while ago) less than 500 people in Cornwall spoke Cornish. They can't even agree on what 'true' Cornish actually is.

I happen to live where St. Piran landed and where 'Lowender Perran' is held - a village called Perranporth. Most of the anti-English feeling is imported from other 'Celts' - mostly Scots and Welsh - who attend 'Celtic' events in the village such as Lowender Perran.

I've never seen anything more serious. It's nowhere near the level reached in Wales where English 2nd homes were burnt down. You get a lot of 'proud to be Cornish' types - which is fair enough because this is replicated in most English counties in my experience - but very rarely do I meet people who seriously believe in independence for Cornwall. To say such a thing is unworkable would be a massive understatement. As I said earlier, polls and petitions held before have recorded interest in a Cornish Assembly, but I'm not aware of any type of sustained campaign to get one.

The petition here: Campaign for a Cornish Assembly - Senedh Kernow

Boasts a massive 987 signatures.
