I think it depends on the form the nationalism takes, alot of nationalism is simply mindless collectivism; the worship of an abstraction which benefits the state by making people more docile.

'Eu nationalism' is an oxymoron.

Do you have Scottish nationalism in mind per chance?

Yes certainly and English nationalism that some here seem to peddle. I think all of it is too jingoistic and collectivist and is about creating vague, but certainly intense, sentiments for abstractions. I can understand warm feelings for your country but I think feelings for local community and region should be vastly more important as they are tangible and comprehensible to the individual. But the feelings demanded by jingoistic patriotism for such large social units as nations like England or Scotland(let alone Australia or America.) I can't really understand or believe are natural. To me it is just the continued march of collectivism in our mass society. EU nationalism will be next.

National feelings and those of a more localised nature you refer to are not mutually exclusive! It seems to me that you are using the latter to oppose the former.

To me, the question arises as to why you, a Scot, are promoting that view here about English nationalism? Do you really think it is fitting for you to do so?

Another question arises: why are you not promoting your anti-nationalism on Scottish nationalist websites?
