![]() More English people want their country out of the UK than do Scots according to the results of a new opinion poll - The poll for Sky News to mark St. George’s Day 2008 (23rd April) has been published (3000 people of just under 30 nationalities were questioned on 19th -20th April, 2008): * 41.1% want England to be independent of the UK (44.6% do not). 58.7% of those who said that they were English said they want England out of the UK. * 36.5% said Scotland should leave the UK (41.9% took the opposite view). Of those who described themselves as Scottish 56.1% said they want Scotland out of the UK – with 47.5% of those saying they were English agreeing with them that Scotland should leave the UK. *61% think the English get a raw deal compared to the rest of the UK (81.3% of those saying they were English took this view compared to 7.1% in Scotland) * 80.9% think ties between the nations of the UK are getting weaker (the largest number of people believing this live in the north of England).
