Jerusalem is a brilliant piece of music.

Jerusalem has been widely adopted as an unofficial English national anthem, and the action of the clergy in Southwark Cathedral will inevitably be seen as a rejection of England and the English as a nation, regardless of the work's merits or demerits as a piece of music. Once again, the Church of England has demonstrated a remarkable lack of sensitivity about the indigenous community. The logic now is: if you don't acknowledge the English in the Southwark Diocese, why should the English acknowledge you?

Can you imagine the clergy in any similar cathedral in Scotland daring or being so stupid had (for example) Flower of Scotland become part of their church tradition? Anyone would think that the Church of England was vibrant and flourishing throughout England!

I don't choose Jerusalem as my National Anthem and I would never stand for it. Frankly, it has become one of those tedious musical cliches like Happy Birthday or Here comes the Bride.

I stand for God Save the Queen not because I like either Elizabeth Saxe-Coburg Gotha or her ghastly family but because I am a monarchist and our national anthem was once the international anthem of monarchy.

Flower of Scotland is a cr*p pop song of no value whatsoever. Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau is a noble air of genuine merit. One might stand for it out of respect for the music alone.

It is, whenever I hear it the hairs on my arms stand to attention. One piece of music I would like to have, must hunt it down and buy a copy, it's beautiful.

Me too - I have a copy on some old audio cassette tape somewhere but I would like to get a copy on CD. Preferably a version with a chorus as well as orchestra.

All true English patriots will feel as we do - that Jerusalem is our Anthem: the theme music for a wonderful country and people whose contribution to the world is outstanding.

I think the musical part of our national anthem (God Save The Queen) is also used by the Grand Duchy of Luxemberg (Luxemberg deliberately spelt the English way).

I note, Mike, that you will stand for God Save The Queen although you do not support our Monarch - but will not stand for Jerusalem which contains no reference to the Monarch .

How do you rate the Irish song 'Danny Boy', by the way?

Fine! In a democracy, the majority view should generally prevail, and that's what many of us are striving for in England, instead of decisions arbitrarily imposed on us by minorities - whether in the past or now!

Actually since the UK has become a multiracial immoral sink full of moronic people with most of whom one would wish to hve nothing to do whatsoever, why don't we simply abolish all national anthems for good?

You can't take a pride in this country any more, whether you call it England, UK or whatever,

It was once used by Russia, Prussia, Denmark, Saxony and many other monarchies as a royal hymn.

It's OK. 'Danny Boy' is the American lyric.
