London mayoral elections: MSN UK News special report - news & weather
A necessary exit from the English Democrats : March 2008 : Andrew Constantine Free England Party : My Telegraph A necessary exit from the English Democrats Posted by Andrew Constantine Free England Party at 17:43 on 29 Mar 2008 To recap, at the start of 2008, I was now the agreed London mayoral candidate for the English Democrats (EDs). One Friday evening that January, the English Democrats’ Chairman came to see me to tell me about his meeting someone who had impressed him hugely: Matt O’Connor the founder of "fathers4justice". The name of O’Connor meant nothing to me while the stunts of "fathers4justice" had left me cold. This meeting saw the second major misunderstanding between me and Robin Tilbrook. In fact, the three leading EDs had found their second celebrity mayoral candidate, and one who had bowled them over with his stories of stunts, and media influence. But I didn’t quite understand on that Friday evening what Robin was driving out. I suppose as I had been appointed the party’s mayoral candidate in succession to Garry Bushell, that this had been approved by the party’s National Council, my family, my employer and Uncle Tom Cobbley, I didn’t see what vacancy Matt might be thinking of taking! By the weekend, I had understood that I was being in effect de-selected as mayoral candidate and in the course of the following week or so I fought back. I was outraged at the breach of trust which I thought had taken place. There is no money and little reward in political activism in small parties. You would hope there would be at the very least trust and liking between fellow activists of the same party. I thought there was, and was to be very disappointed by some whom I really liked and even revered as fellow English nationalists. I could say a lot more on this Blog about these minor events, but what’s the point? I knew that a political party that thought Matt O’Connor was a suitable candidate for an important elected office (indeed that he was preferable to me) was not a party that I wanted to be associated with. After all, and perhaps unusually, I believe that all citizens should obey the broad intention, or spirit, of the law as well as observe the letter of the law. And I had became an activist in English politics to help bring about an English Parliament, with the hoped for consequence that England would leave the EU. Compare those exalted aims with the most famous stunt of "fathers4justice" of throwing purple dye at Tony Blair in the Commons. The gap between my ideal of a democratic English nationalist party and the reality of the EDs had suddenly developed into one the size of Grand Canyon. I left the party in late January and Matt O’Connor became the EDs Mayoral candidate. But I keep an eye out for Mr O'Connor's progress as candidate. He seems a very pedestrian speaker, with little to say of interest. Judging by the mayoral polls to date, he has “Loser” written all over him. If he gets more than 1 or 2% of the voters cast, I will be surprised and pleased that the English nationalist vote is increasing despite the mediocre choice of candidate. At last after two years of intense and hard working political activism, I was no longer a member of a political party. Time for family, for my other interests, for rest. The role apparently to be given to me by fate hadn't come to much, if anything, after all ================================================== ====== Just to Clarify, Andrew Constantine was NEVER selected as the English Democrats London Mayoral Candidate. Andrew Constantine LOST the selection contest between himself and Matt O'Connor held in January 2008, previous to this the selected candidate was Garry Bushell who stepped down as he could not work as a journalist and campaign during the official campaign. Andrew's actions, are those of a plant, with no interest in English Nationalism. |

I wouldn't get too excited about an on-line newspaper poll.
I remember in the 2005 general election for Copeland constituency, a similar poll had EDP candidate Alan Mossop in front - but in the end he got less than 2%. |

17% eh? Would you care to accept a small charitable wager that Matt gets nowhere near that on polling day? I'll even be generous with the percentage. I say Matt won't even get half that.

Ok, it's 29th March today, and Matt is on 17% as Kentishman reports. Let's see if he can maintain or improve on that on polling day, and if he drops well below that, the campaign manager, whoever he or she is, should honourably resign from their party.

After Robin Tilbrook and I agree that Garry really had to step down, the mayoral selection board of Robin, me and Leo Brookes (Secretary London Area) agreed that I was the unadvertised replacement candidate. This status then ran for a couple of weeks whilst I got my workplace on board etc. Matt O'Conner then came along and Uncles tried to have me simply replaced without much process, but then came up with a primary type competition. Some may recall some posts made to this effect by Uncles on this forum. I always said I would not take part in this primary - not scared, not squeamish just I found it unacceptable that I might be supplanted by O'Connor who had evinced no previous interest in England - and was not even a member of the FEDs until 2008! On the evening before the primary, I had secured a clear majority of the National Council votes and emailed all to the effect that as I had these, we did not need a divisive competition and vote in the following day's NC meeting in Leicester. Later that evening, two ED NC members put the knife into my back (Abrams and Ball). And I decided to get out of that rather nasty party. My campaign manager who stayed honest and reliable to the end was Englander 1 (David Lane). David, just for the record, who is telling the truth? Uncles or me?

However Matt O'Connor is showing 17% currently on this on-line Poll London mayoral elections: MSN UK News special report - news & weather And if everyone is so sure he is going to do so badly, then why is everyone attacking him and the English Democrats ? |
