Well Northumbrian and the other 2 negatives who delight in attacking people who are trying, what have you done about this situation? You are confusing two differnt thigs: noticing the problem andtrying to do something about it.

A "solution to the aspect of the disinheriting that we are subject to"??? What kind of phrase is this? More importantly, what solution to the deculturalisation of the English is 'offered'? Merely joining the 'Friends of the English Music Festival'? You must be joking!

In his essay "The deculturalisation of the English", John Lovejoy points out that a component of English culture is English language. The Welsh, the Scots, the Irish and others are well aware of this and, despite having minority and moribind lingos, seek to preserve and to promote theirs. The French have their "L'Académie française".

However, we English allow any Tom, Dick or Mohamed to mangle our language! Simply because it is the common currency of communication between peoples and even amongst peoples (eg in China and India) is not sufficient reason to allow foreigners to distort what is acceptable usage here in England!

Worse, we have individuals who subscribe to this and other fora professing to be English, and yet write the most flawed English! No, I'm not referring to the odd typo or misspelling but to persistent and gross errors!

To cut to the chase (so to speak), with your standard of written English you should not presume to lecture others about what they should or should not do apropos English culture. It's akin to a tone deaf person giving singing lessons. Kindly remove the beam from your own eye!

Alan England, you are always the spiteful one. No wonder you were thrown off the committee of the English Democratic party. Go and put some leaflets though doors spear carrier. Don't forget I am coming to York for a nice cuppa and a bickie with you.

I was quoting from Orwell's '1984'. If history is rewritten, then part of a person's identity and mindset is changed.

Thank you, but I believe the full quotation is:
Quote:
Those who control the past control the future. Those who control the present control the past.
(A form of syllogism, if I am not mistaken.)

Alone, the first statement is absurd. It is the second which implies the means of control to be rewriting history.

It is the propensity to misquote which results in nonsense being given currency eg "There is more than one of skinning the cat . . ."

I have been reading through this thread and you people are anti - english. Why not make a positive suggestion instead of just attacking the one who did. If you don't like classical music what do you think we should be promoting?
Do you know what the culture wars are?

Obviously you can't read properly.

Why do you ask?

You attacked a positive suggestion made about reculturising the English and why would you do that if you are pro English? Or do you get jealous because you can't write articles? I asked about the culture wars because the three of you seemed to misunderstand the main point of the article. You haven't said what you think we should be promoting.
