If you feel that a Gandhi statue should not be errectd in Leicester - England, then sign the Downing St petition against the Early Day Motion that Keith Vaz put through parliament in favour of this statue!
Petition to: Disregard the Early Day Motion by Keith Vaz regarding the propasal for the erection of a statue to Gandhi in Leicester. If you are not bothered and don't mind this statue being errected, then thats fine, its your right to have that opinion, then simply don't sign the petition.

I fail to see why anyone other than a racist such as Vaz should want to erect a statue to Ghandi in England!
Ghandi never did anything for England; all his efforts were focussed on what was India (which then included Pakistan and Bangladesh). It could be argued that Ghandi, by pursuing his aims the way he did, forced the British to leave with unnecessary haste and, consequently, millions of his bigoted compatriots slaughtered each other in their haste to rid themselves of those practising 'other' religions. I have to see Vaz do anything but pander to Indian and muslim interests. He'd not be in our legislature for a moment longer if I had my way. To think this man was our Minister for Europe (ie the EU!). In fact, Vaz' government has ensured that the preponderance if not all of its Ministers for Europe are not English (and don't tell me that Dennis McShane is English!). A Scot is the current occupant of that position! ![]() |

One the anachronism of modern liberalism is that it elevates scoundrels to be heroes, and denigrates heroes into scoundrels. And when it cannot do that, liberalism simply lies.
So it is the case with one of liberalism's icons, Mahatma Gandhi. All over the world, the Indian leader Gandhi is held up as an icon of peace, pacifism, tolerance and brotherly love. Statues are erected to him, his "example" is taught to Western schoolchildren, and Hollywood has even made a film about him. In all of these, Gandhi is portrayed as the ultimate peacemaker, the living example of multi-culturalism. Sadly, liberalism and the truth have seldom met. For in reality, Gandhi was a first class Indian racist who not only despised Blacks, but also lower caste Indians! The Truth Seeker - The Myth of Mahatma Gandhi |

Gandhi was an Indian patriot and in many ways a worthy man.
I do not share this antagonism to him, but at the same time I'm uneasy at the further importation of un-English culture to an English city. But Hindus have tended to to be good citizens of this country. The threat does not come from them. |

If its strickly controled immigration, things wouldn't be half as bad,
though we should be talking about immigrants leaving the country before we continue to talk about them coming in as if obligitory! Yes Gandhi was an Indian nationalist, and so why would we want a statue of him in England? Its just another sign in Leicester of how the Englihs are not consulted on these sort of issues and its just a cherry on the top of Asins colognising parts of Leicester, pushing the English out whilst our rulers ignore us. I have managed to start to wake the English up here on this one though, or more to the point the English here are starting to say enough is enough! Leicester is ready to boil over here, and something like this may even kick off unrest. I fear for this place. In all the dangerous multi-cultural experiment mess that is Leicester, I just want the English to prevail and for Leicester to look and feel like England again. Quote:

Gandhi wasn't born a saint, but he struggled his whole life to overcome the prejudices he started out with. He was an amazingly humane man, and an inspiration. In other words, exactly the sort of person we should put up statues to. I may consider sending some money into the fund to build this one. I'll try to find out more about it when there is time.

He is widely disliked by members of different religions from his own. I am surprised at you encouraging factionalism.
