ID cards are very popular but can’t be trusted with this government.
With a Right Wing government however they may well prove useful.

They aren't that popular anymore. When people undestand the billions in tax that has to be stolen for them to pay for them, that instantly lessons the appeal. Billions on an ongoing basis to maintain and upgrade the prison state.
Then you see incompetent useless government losing the data, or getting hacked by criminals, to abuse at will. That puts them off a bit more. Then you get the jumped up little Hitlers who make people jump, because they can. Then you get the inconvienience of losing them or them not working, which ****** off another chunk. Then you start to realise that crime is still getting worse and wonder why it only ever seems to be the ordinary joe that gets hassled, or punished for some petty non crime. Finaly some dictator abuse them to ethnically clense a whole nation. A threat you would think people would be well aware of by now, given the love of such schemes by dictators througout the time. But it is true, some idiots still think they will stop the immigrants getting them, so throw all sense to the wind.
