Judging from your response you haven't been to Dartford for some time, if ever, as your take on the case is certainly simplistic and a general view. The piece of land in dispute is currently a toilet and is not part of the park which itself has been safeguarded. The one thing that has always got me about all this is all these people crying foul over the ridiculous proposals to put a road through the park in '04/05 never ever use it's facilities. Certainly I've never seen any EDs down there apart from photo opportunities. England unfortunately doesn't have a fighting chance certainly not when the EDs and other English parties just seem to wish to fight and score points off each other. I fear that personalities and personal squabbles has overshadowed the aims. I'm not a politician by any means but why not unite and fight together you all seem to relish a good debate! W. |

Land is left to deteriorate and become "a toilet" so that the electorate are "grateful" when development takes place. Don't be suckered.

Unfortunately the land which is an access road has been in a bad way for over 30 years and to be honest apart from the odd ED seen scavenging in the local press is not used that much apart from the occasional pedestrian and as a place to park the car. It's a bit unfair to blame it all on the publicity seeking ego maniac that runs the council it's been deteriorating rapidy many years before his ludicrous and deeply unpopular scheme to put a road through the park. Dartford town centre badly needs regeneration and this case could, although unlikely, halt it in it's tracks. The EDs are following in the footsteps of our useless Labour MP who scraped in in 2005 with a slim majority on the back of the very emotive road through the park. As someone who uses the park frequently I can honestly say I've never seen Stoate or any EDs using the park for recreational purposes, only political stunts. If the issue was taken up by joe public rather than self serving politicos then it would receive more sympathy and widespread support. The petitioners have gone on public record as saying that all they wish to do is 'give the council a good beating' which quite frankly turns people off. I watched the news coverage of the court case with interest particularly as there had been calls and high hopes from the EDs for a massive show of public strength and support. The total turnout was dear old batty Mike Tibby, the Steptoe Rileys, and an old lady, all ED members. This is not about a worthy cause just politicking which makes me sad as the real issues are being totally overlooked. So if wishing to see my town stop sliding further into disrepair and decay then yes, I AM A SUCKER. W (sucker) |
