What towns like this need are decent regeneration projects, not building on parks, and not tacky cheapo 00's architecture which involves those stupid pieces of metal stuck to the roof and some cheap wood facings. If the council are in breach of what they are supposed to be doing, then good I hope somebody does stop them. Selling off land to another Tesco, Asda or whatever has been going on for far too long and has killed off local shops in some towns. If this was my town I'd be happy Tax money was being spent on the issue. Property developers in my area of England have got away with far too much and councils have ignored peoples protests. It's about time somebody told them to ****** off. Nobody ever listens to these kidns of protests. Check out Harlow North or Mereham and you'll see what I mean. RDA's, councils etc. building and selling off land where they like with giving two sh**s what the local population think. If UKIP want to be successful at local elections they need to start helping local people fight proposals like this and Mereham, Tesco's in Hove/Shoreham etc. and build popular support, not go chasing Freemason bogeymen and the space alien Illuminati ![]() Ea of dune |

Well done EDs. It remind me of when I lived in Alton, the Trelore hospital was given to the town, and the council sold off the hospital and land, much to the anger of residents. Good to see someone fighting.

It's not over reacting, if you know Lowfield Street and the town centre you'll know exactly what I mean. It has been run down for years and years and redevelopment is the only saviour. From what I understand the redevelopment will be a magnet for other retailers which will hopefully replace the surfeit of pound and charity shops and the ever increasing amount of boarded up shops. The park won't be built on, this is basically an anti Tesco rant which I'm very sympathetic to, but to go through the courts, and ultimately lose and cost the taxpayers huge amounts in the name of publicity is sheer bloody lunacy. Also the Rileys have been in the press a lot recently and from reading their quotes aside from being anti Tesco the other aim is to give the council a beating. W |

Another piece of land turned into just another step along the way to Tesco world domination ? Then perhaps when tesco have 'regenerated' the area everyone will be able to stare out of their windows at the sea of cars in the Tesco car park (presumably Tesco will be issuing everyone with free gas masks as well) while they eat their 'value baked beans' until they eventually die of obesity because there's nowhere left to exercise anymore. And meanwhile, what ever other shops where already there first go into receivership because Tesco have will have bullied there way into domination of the marketplace. Then all those small shopkeepers, who will become unemployed can go and work behind the checkout at Tesco and Wordsworth will be happy. How have we ended up with people like Wordsworth in modern England ? If we can work that one out, we may be able to stop producing any more of them, and England may still have a fighting chance. |

And just another thought for Wordsworth...
I take it that you are now considering joining the EDP as you said you would if they won the case. I for one would like to congratulate you on a good decision on your part, this time. Welcome to the EDP. I look forward to seeing you at the next AGM. Last edited by Springer5; 19-03-2008 at 10:42 AM. Reason: typo |

As far as I'm aware they haven't won it yet, but should they do so I will consider joining, but I'm pretty confident they'll crash and burn, hopefully not incurring serious costs in the process. W |

What is MALEadministration is it something similar to the decree passed when Jesus was born ![]() My real beef is that ultimately us Dartford taxpayers will have to foot the bill for this case and pay the parasites while Mr Riley gets his 15 minutes of fame. I'm no fan of the shy and retiring council leader and his acolytes but everyone blames them for driving the small businesses to the wall but those who moved to other areas of Dartford are flourishing. Many of them had closed down long before the proposed plans, but the EDs seem to have overlooked this fact and wish to appear as the saviour of small businesses in Dartford but obviously didn't patronise them enough to stave off closure, then again Mr & Mrs Riley have only resided here for a number of months. Lowfield Street is a s******e and needs regeneration NOW! Good luck with your case but I fear that it's doomed and when I receive next year's Council Tax increase I shall urge all Dartfordians to get in touch with the EDs!!! W. |
