The Council - Election results for Princes, 3 May 2007 Candidate Party Votes % David Edward May Labour.......................712 19% Elected Geoff Prout Labour........................657 17% Elected Margaret Anne Stock Labour........................656 17% Elected (Now Dead) Jean Carol Shippam Conservative.............428 11% Not elected Liz Painter English Democrats......382 10% Not elected Drew Swinerd Conservative.............363 10% Not elected Richard John Wells Conservative ............362 10% Not elected Lauren Tawnee Sloan UKIP........................ 241 6% Not elected A direct comparison is difficult, as last year it was a FULL Council Election with 3 Councillors in the Ward Elected. The Top Three went to Labour, Conservative was 4th English Democrats 5th beating the other 2 Conservatives (UKIP came last) As each Voter had 3 Votes last year, and only 1 Vote this time, then again a direct compairson is difficult Last time around English Democrats got 10% of the vote (8 Candidates) This time around English Democrats got 17% of the vote (5 Candidates) On both occassions UKIP came last. Total Votes 1179 Labour 592 50% - DOWN by 3% and DOWN by 120 VOTES Conservative 348 29.5% - DOWN by 1.5% and DOWN by 80 VOTES English Democrat 198 16.8% - UP by 7% but DOWN by 184 VOTES Lib-Dems 22 1% - DID NOT STAND IN 2007 UKIP 19 1% - DOWN 5% and DOWN by 222 VOTES

Someone elsewhere in the forum is possibly trying to imply that the English Democrat (ED) party did not do well at Dartford earlier this week - but they are unfairly quoting the fact that the ED party got less votes this week than last year in the Princes Ward - without pointing out that most of the other parties got less votes too because it was a lower turnout. As I pointed out in the thread where the person is posting to - it is percentage share of the vote which is the real guide because it more actually reflects a party's performance regardless of voter turnout. It is possible for a party's share of the vote to go up in percentage terms but for its vote to fall (and the vote for other parties to fall) as happened with the English Democrats at Dartford a couple of days ago. The vote share at Dartford was a good one for the ED party - the ED party put in a lot of work into their campaign there because it is one of the party's best wards for results. As I wrote in another thread - Dartford is right next to the Greater London boundary and if the ED party get just a third of the vote share in the May 2008 London Assembly elections that they got at Dartford on 21.2.2008 they would stand a very good chance of winning one of the London-wide proportionally-elected seats. |
