Default Draft Aims of the new Independence party

It was necessary to draft the Constitution of the new Independence party in a hurry and the first NEC meeting and AGM of the party may have to do some tidying up. But I show below some of the main aims of the new Independence party (as submitted to the Electoral Commission) and invite constructive feedback please:

The principal aim of the Party is to work to ensure that the people of England shall be citizens of a free, self-governing independent nation state of England, with its sovereignty vested in a Parliament of all England.

The Constitution of this revived nation state of England will declare that the nation’s Sovereignty may not be shared or delegated to, or with, any supranational organisation, such as, in particular, the European Union.

The Party are committed to work for England’s early, complete and, if necessary in the face of intransigence from other member states or the Commission, unilateral withdrawal from the European Union.

Thanks and Regards, Andrew Constantine

It's important to get the foundations of the party right, then you will be able to build.

Well worth investing a bit of time in this.

OK, I'll try to be constructive. It implies no membership of the UN & etc, NATO, WTO, World Bank, IMF, Council of Europe. Maybe that is intentional, I don't know. If it just relates to the EU it should say explicitly that eg, "Article 49, England is not now and will not hereafter be a member state of the European Union." "Article 50, The revocation of Article 49 requires a referendum of the English people whereby not less than half of the electorate vote in total, whereby not less than half of those persons vote in favour of the revocation of Article 49. The referendum wording being: Do you support the removal of Article 49 from the English Constitution."

Not that obviously but something like that!

Default New Independence Party

I would be interested, as this is my particular sphere of concern, in what the new Party will be drafting on matters of education, social problems (yobdom, youth drinking culture and drug addiction, teenage pregnancies, etc) and the urgent issue of the English working class. Are there ideas in the suggestion box concerning housing, health, employment creation and training for a revived economic sector that could help the previously neglected working classes of England take their place in a New England.

I am not a political animal but a culturally oriented one, and my special interest group has always been the people once known as "the working class". Their needs, their children's needs, their towns and cities all require urgent attention so they can once again fully participate in their country's affairs. So, in a nutshell, what are the new Independence Party's policies to be with regard to local issues?

Default New Independence party - broad aims

I very much appreciate the above feedback. Thank you.

I can reassure Frith that I only cited the top two broad policy aims and that there are another ten or so main policy aims about society, the economy, the law, the democracy etc of an Independent England.

I also agree that the traditional working class communities of England have really lost out in so many ways and urgent action across a wide range of policy areas is needed.

The new party will not exactly be taking over governmment at the next general election, so some imprecision of langauge may be excused in the first manifesto of the party. But we English nationalists are aghast at the way various Union governments have signed up to so many international commitments (EU, Iraq, Afghanistan etc etc) and organisations.

I like the look of the above wording on leaving the EU. Very helpful, thanks Independent UK.

Generally as nationalists we think our focus should be on the English nation and we should leave other nations to run their own affairs. My personal inclination is to copy the Swiss example - helpful to the outside world (Red Cross, humanitarian assistance but also a policy of strict neutrality). But it - and other policy calls - will be for decision by the party as whole, and I do not know which way it will go.

More constructive feedback welcomed, but thank you for the above.

Regards, Andrew

This is very encouraging. The English have a great interest in also giving assistance in the event of international as swell as national disasters and other situations where help can be delivered. It is a source of national pride to many countries who go out wearing their colours to assist. Sometimes training and technology fit into these arenas too. Many helpful cooperative projects can be instituted in place of wasting money on disgusting warmongery that is not achieving anything and creating lifelong feuding scenarios instead. People like to help and they can only hope to do this effectively if charity begins at home.

All round, like your thinking so far as it is very much in keeping with the traditional English mindset. I think your early suggestions and sketches for policies could initiate a lot of interest as now the people of England themselves might feel it is worthwhile placing their opinions in the suggestion box. Hopefully this will spur them on to get involved in issues that affect them and that have the potential to be directly resolved or developed as the case may be.

Obviously a long term project that requires long term commitment, but also a project that will begin to bear fruit from day one. Because every individual is significant and can contribute on a variety of scales. People have jeered at me for having a "no child left behind" mentality, but this can be brought closer to reality if smaller groups like sovereign nation states get control of their own destiny and can motivate their people to appropriate tasks. I feel they at the very least deserve the chance to show what they are capable of.

So far the new party is showing open handedness in policy making and cooperativeness in planning. Good English democratic virtues.

It is important to distinguish between aims or objectives and particular policies.

Apropos policies: it is better for a new party to have as few policies as practicable. After all, it is not as though the new party will be knocking on the door of No 10 so to speak . . . or even Parliament for that matter.

Far from enhancing credibility, a plethora of policies has the opposite effect and provides more areas in which members/supporters can divide and disagree.

Core objectives and a half dozen or so crucial policies which create a clear and distinct profile are more likely to be credible and electorally effective.

Will you have a leader, chairman, or some sort of figure head ?

Or go down the "Green" route of having "spokes people" ?
