If you have genuine suspicion or knowledge of a plot against the life of 'Englishman' then I trust you have already reported that to the police and if not already will now at the very least PM 'Englishman' telling him of your knowledge to the threat to his life. |

Considering the whole sentence: "There are some who might wish you were actually slaughtered for mentioning the BNP, but I couldn't possibly say who!" I personally think that anyone who draws your kind of conclusion should fully explain, citing the relevant authorities, when and how the word 'might' lost all meaning! Also, I should be interested to learn the precise logic which led you to conclude from the sentence that there is a 'genuine suspicion or knowledge of a plot'? Of course if you are either unable or unwilling to do explain, you might care withdraw those suggestions? In my personal opinion, when my sentence is taken as a whole its meaning is quite clear, regardless of whether the reader is well endowed with a sense of humour or not, and even a literal interpretation does not lend itself to either yours or Englishman's reactions! The standard of reading and writing of English on this forum used to be quite high but, regrettably, seems to have suffered significant deterioration of late together with a loss of humour. ![]() |
