Default Standing for London, not Edinburgh - Matt O'Connor

Standing for London, not Edinburgh.

Said O'Connor today, "I'm alarmed by the state of our political discourse and a democracy that is failing Londoners on such a spectacular scale. I'm standing for London and that means we have to review the amount of taxes that flow from London to other parts of the UK including Scotland, so that our taxes are invested in London, not Edinburgh.

"We must also place families and communities at the heart of our agenda. 27 teenagers died last year in a violent harvest of bullets and blades on the bloodstained streets of our capital city and the role of fathers is absolutely integral to solving this problem. London is in breakdown - family and community breakdown - and I believe that as an agent for change, I can restore and repair our broken city."

"With regard to spending, the Mayor is profligate and has morphed into a great bloated newt jealously guarding his gold hoard. For motorists he is the Highwayman from Hell and for taxpayers he is 'Cashpoint Ken' the man who is milking London dry."

Matt O'Connor is the English Democrats London Mayoral Candidate -May 2008

Edinburgh pays far more into the national treasury than it gets back.

Doncha just love these unsubstantiated assertions!

Here's another: England is a much greater nation than Scotland!

Scotland back at the centre of this thread also I see, despite being another 'for instance' together with "other parts of the UK"!

Yes - the issue of the London deficit has to be addressed.

The capital gets less £5 billion a year less from the UK Government in public funds than it is entitled to.

OK, so London may not get back the correct taxes, but you do get everything else - New Wembley, which should have been in Derby!. The Olympics & all the new development, which us outside the capital don't want because it is taking all the money from Sport England & arts, and does not help deprived Newcastle, Middlesbrough or Sunderland etc. !. 02 Areana magnificent venue for cockneys to pop along to, but not much help to ex miners, shipbuilders etc from Co Durham!. Cockneys should Look at what you have got, that we have not , before you complain !. Unionists should de-centralise the country and make London less important, after all it does not reflect the UK with regard to employment, culture or people. More tax on London is required to help support all of the UK.
