Default There is a serious degree of public disengagement.

I was watching this political talk show last night. There was the a mixture of politicians including the home secretary and an audience asking questions.

OK so far but what struck me was where was the urgency, where was the sense of importance as they talked of the latest ongoing problems like murder of teenagers and lack of support for vital areas of public life. They all just wittered on or grandstanded and so on and the public took it all like lambs.

Where is the sense of importance gone, why don't people stand up and say it's not good enough, stop lying or offering platitudes and do something about the problem, why does the public lap it up why don't they demand from the people who are responsible, a real effective and immediate response.

Public debate has degenerated to something like a joke, it doesn't help that most of our media promotes **** celeb culture and the morals of the lowest common denominator. Why should anyone care if all they are taught to expect is cheap quips and winging on about why it's everyone elses fault exept the person whose job it is who it seems only wants to wallow in the perks, take lots of free travel and avoid doing anything remotely like work.

I have got the Parliament channel on atm and there is hardly anyone there. They are debating Northern Rock, but I thought they were going to debate the 2nd reading of the Lisbon Treaty/Constitution.

Me too, I would have thought debating the Lisbon Treaty would have been slightly more important than Northern Rock, but there again I could be wrong.
