I cannot let silly and hurtful rumors circulate about Mr Bushell.

I know conspiracy theories are fun, but the fact is that even well known and very able employees in the media have to earn a living and pay their household bills.

Media companies cannot have their employees campaigning for a particular political party - for pretty obvious reasons - and Mr Bushell needed to remain in employment. So he had to step down from the mayoral campaign for the EDs.

If you cannot square the above with certain reports, I recommend that you believe my above account.

I can completely believe you but it does not square with what Kentishman wrote, that Garry was still a candidate less than 48 hours before the selection committee met. Did Kentishman lie when he stated that he was still a candidate? Or did Garry leave it till the last minute or beyond to withdraw as a candidate?
