You can go into branches of Marks and Spencer in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and they will (so I am told) accept euros there too.

One of the most anti-EU people in the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) of Dr. Paisley was Jim Allister MEP.

Mr. Allister left the DUP last year in protest at Dr. Paisley's decision to work with SIN Fein.

I hope that the DUP has not diluted its strongly eurosceptic approach since the departure of Mr. Allister.

That's all true. But my point was about Paisley promoting it, not legislating for it.

He may offer a sort of "two currencies solution" whereby the euro is general accepted across Northern Ireland just as Scottish banknotes are in the UK. He would always claim the pound sterling sovereign, just that it would be OK to use the euro when it suited, such as for cross border transactions.

Point taken, but what is Paisley's reason?

Any foreign currency regarded as sound (ie as good if not better than one's own) is welcomed in countries all over the world. Examples are sterling and the US dollar in Russia and throughout Africa.

I don't have a specific reason in mind. I'm just commenting on the possibility based on the UKIP response. Paisley may adjust according to circumstances, that's really what I'm saying.

Indeed Paisley voted against going into the Eu in the 1970s and always seemed hostile to any EU intergration in the past.
