The founder of direct action group Fathers 4 Justice is planning to enter the London Mayoral race.

Matt O'Connor, who orchestrated stunts such as the powder-bombing of Tony Blair in the Commons, has vowed to bring "theatre and drama" to the campaign.

He plans to focus on the breakdown of families, which he believes is behind the huge number of teenage murders in London - 27 last year and two already this year. "One in two black children grows up without a father. One in four children grows up without a father. In London it's a real issue," said Mr O'Connor, 40, a father of three.

"We need to tackle crime and we need to tackle young offending. The role of fathers is absolutely integral to solving this problem."

Fathers 4 Justice was founded to highlight the difficulty many estranged fathers have in gaining legal access to their children but its publicity stunts have caused controversy.

Mr O'Connor almost committed suicide in 2001 when he considered jumping off Waterloo bridge after being barred from seeing his two sons from his first marriage.

He expects to launch his campaign on 14 February and stand for the English Democrats, who campaign for an English parliament because they believe that England loses out to Scotland in terms of public funding.
So what happened to Garry? An explanation from the forums ED members is necessary in my opinion.

I wasn't going to vote for Garry and am even less likely to vote for this bloke. Still it is a good article for the EDs (now also known as the political wing of F4J).

An interesting article...I am confident there will be an official press release on the forthcoming English Democrat London Mayoral Campaign 'Serious About London' soon.

I'm sure the Commuters of London will give this gentleman a resounding Vote of Thanks for the trouble he has caused them.

I think not.

You're not privvy to what is actually happening in your own party I take it? I didn't think the likes of Constantine, Guest and Lee joined the EDs (F4J) from UKIP so that the membership would be kept in the dark about significant developments like the non-announcement that Garry was no longer their Mayoral candidate and the non-announcement that Mr O'Connor was likely to be the replacement Mayoral candidate. It all sounds shambolic and that is a very generous assessment on my part.

Looks like the BNP were telling the truth afterall on that Bushell will not be standing. Richard Barnbrook must be jumping with joy, cant see the ED's getting more that 3.5% now.

Maybe they was a bit embarrassed about the big **** up and the BNP getting one over them. The British Nazi Party as they call them messed up their chances, Guess we can see that we should not expect honesty from the ED's.

Cool Gone fishin'

Garry Bushell was one thing - Matt O'Connor is someone completely different. This all shows the English Democrats in a bad light from a political intuition point of view.

Garry Bushell could have got a good result. Now it will be derisory. Yes, what did happen to Bushell?

Agree with you about this maverick joining in a high profile manner. The BNP have Kemp and now the EDP have this one. Bad move.

Kemp may have a bit of history in South Africa, but they knew they was facing the destruction of their nation which is exactly what has happened. But give the BNP their due they have put Kemp in a high profile election, they have instead went with someone already elected and is getting them good publicity.
