Perhaps if the expenditure on Education per capita in England had matched that in Scotland and Wales for the last fifty or so years (ie preceding the Barnett formula being introduced to institutionalise hitherto ad hoc arrangements), we might have fewer [NB Not 'less'] individuals on this board who, wittingly or otherwise, betray their inability to write correct English.

We all make spelling errors from time to time, but in too many cases, the evidence goes well beyond that! We even have the odd individual posting the phonetic error of "would of" when they should have written "would have" ~ of course!

Nit picking rules! OK!
I am not in favour of it because I think it would not achieve anything. It is a gimmick, nothing more nothing less so the best thing to do is to have the debate about how to get a fair settlement for England and thus strengthening the Union.

Like all cheap political stunts, the purpose is to gain cheap political favour and push the myth's about Britain being "proud" and "great" whilst the government f**k up the country and our lives as much as they can.
Every time the government act like they are so good and take the moral highground the truth is always the exact opposite...
It's called P R O P A G A N D A.................

So I say f**k your "British" day Gordon, give us our referendum (you traitorous scumbag)

Well it would be difficult to disagree with that.

Which poses the question: Why have you wasted your professedly ultra valuable time pouring cold water on this?

As I said early on, your are nit picking, by your own definition. I'm filled with admiration! [For the avoidance of doubt, this is irony.]

To try to highlight that the real issue is being missed and that is how to readress the imbalance casued by the Blair Governments devolution policy in order to strengthen the Union

It is certainly not to wind you up cassie, there is no need to do that because you come to this forum fully wound!

It isn't traditional to have a public holiday commemorating a person.

Britannist has some supporters
Default St. George's Day/Shakespeare's Birthday, Bank Holiday, Autumn, Christmas Day, shops

I support St. George's Day/Shakespeare's Birthday being made a Bank/public holiday in England.

But there is also a need for a Bank Holiday sometime in the Autumn. At present, in the long period between the end of August and Christmas Day there is not one single Bank Holiday.

I think that people would welcome a Bank Holiday in November which some might use to do some of their Christmas shopping (assuming that many shops are open on that day).

I think there's room for both. After all, the UK is lagging far behind in this area. I vote for November 5th.
