Actually I am proud to be British as well as English and I am proud of the Union as well the sooner we adresses the mess casued by devoulution the better in its present form the Union is unsustainable.

I am not sure how having another bank holiday will help though, I shouldnt think it will make much diffrence regards increasing English Identity rather it will just be used as an excuse to have a lie in or take the kids somehwere etc. I mean as a Christian I dont think having Good friday off has raised additional awareness about Christs great sacrifice, it is important to me and other christians but for many it is just a holiday.

I understand what you are saying but it is just a gimmick really.

Better to keep fighting for a proper deal for England following the mess Blair made of devolution.

Yes, depending upon what you mean by 'a proper deal', it is better but that does not mean nothing else should be done!

Neither the Scots nor the Welsh suffer from such wishy-washy hesitancy!

They are busy spending our money on promoting their minority languages etc, whilst we have criticisms and negative nit picking about any constructive initiative for England.

The poll ~ which I admit is somewhat academic ~ is about a 'new public holiday'! I suppose you'd rather all the muslims got together and put a new public holiday for Mohammed on top whilst, like Nero, you fiddle about with your precious niceties. Heaven forfend that anyone should say that the English should have another 'English' public day off. Let's all stand back whilst others capture the moment and create the impression that we'd all rather 'skive' (to use anti-Englisg critics' words) off to mark Islam!

No wonder England is going down the pan! You guys can't see the wood for the trees and you're not even comic!

It's easy to say you are proud of this or that but, as Bogard once said, it don't amount to a hill of beans!

There actually busy spending British money but lets not nit pick

I will continue to campain for an English Parliament as my prefered solution to this mess.

My answer to the Muslims who would like a public holiday for Mohamed the Paeodophile prophet would be the same, its not needed and would be unproductive for the economy and would do nothing to increase a sense of englishness.

I am perfectly calm and my blood pressure ( all thanks to natural remedies and not the pills the DR prescribed) is ok.

To avoid any debates on whether the English should cellebrate St George as he is not English etc, and for any other English who want to cellebrate Shakespeare and other great English heros etc etc
I may have the answer which could please all the English....

an 'ENGLAND DAY!'

This way any of the English can make it what they will, cellebrating what ever English great hero they will.
It would also be a day to cellebrate Englishness in general as well.

Oh no! Let's indulge ourselves! There [not 'they're' or 'their'!] are typographical errors and . . .

All that is being suggested here is that people signify their support for England by nominating St George's Day but you'd rather expend much greater time and illiterate effort finding excuses not to do that simple thing!

Perhaps if the expenditure on Education per capita in England had matched that in Scotland and Wales for the last fifty or so years (ie preceding the Barnett formula being introduced to institutionalise hitherto ad hoc arrangements), we might have fewer [NB Not 'less'] individuals on this board who, wittingly or otherwise, betray their inability to write correct English.

We all make spelling errors from time to time, but in too many cases, the evidence goes well beyond that! We even have the odd individual posting the phonetic error of "would of" when they should have written "would have" ~ of course!

Nit picking rules! OK!

A good suggestion, and one well worth considering!
