I don't know where the Mail got its figures from but, by my calculations, the population density in Netherlands now is greater than the density forecast for England in 2031. The land area of Netherlands is 33,883sq km and population is about 16.6 million. That is around 490 people per sq km. |

What about San Marino - the oldest democratic republic in Europe and not in the EU. You have to pay to have your passport stamped! Amazingly it is only 1707 in San Marino yet they have cars and TV. Now that's what I call doing well outside the EU.

Heaven forfend that anything essentially important concerning England should not be subjected to nit picking by minorities!
The main facts seem to be that, in the EU, England (as distinct from the UK) has the fourth largest population and, with an area of 130,410 sq km (50,352 sq miles), is ninth largest! Here's a link: Demographics of the European Union - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and another: England - MSN Encarta If Scotland took a proportionate share of the population, it would have some 35 million people instead of the current paltry 5 million which, given that England only accounts for some 57% of UK territory, reduces the UK's average population density. 90%+ of the projected future population increases will be in England! Why on earth the English have not cottoned on to the fact that the three big Brit parties dominated by Scots and others do not care a hoot just defeats me. We take too much on trust, and our trust is persistently abused. Last edited by cassie; 02-01-2008 at 03:04 PM. |

But there isn’t uniformity of population distribution in different parts of England either for various geographical and historical reasons. The same applies to Scotland of course and obviously UK as a whole. |

Cassie, if you followed that plan through you'd be forcing a lot of English people to live in Scotland and Wales. The majority of people who live in England are English.

Many Scots want Scotland to be treated as a 'nation', but how frequently Scots also seek to deal with England on a piecemeal basis. It is this kind of double standard that has deprived the much larger England and the more numerous English of equal and fair treatment. |

However, an over-representative number of Scots in the British Parliament are apparently happy to preside over the English being forced to endure huge numbers of foreign born people coming to live amongst us, take our employment and lower wage rates. I have come to the conclusion that the English would be best represented by the English. However, ousting our enemies (like getting out of the EU) is extremely difficult with them having control of the levers of power and the main means of communication! |
