I don't know a single person who doesn't call it 'Somerset' - and I was born there! Edit: Also, isn't 'Devonshire' an entirely artificial invention?

You have a lot to learn about your countries history - this is a 1911 Encyclopedia Hampshire was known as Southamptonshire.

Good to see Rutland (shire)
on the list (in the first posting to this thread). I read the other week that the Post Office has finally agreed to restore the Rutland postal address (the County of Rutland is an ancient English county which europhile Heath tried to destroy with his 1974 local government 'reorganisation' - he put it into the neighbouring county of Leicestershire against the wishes of the people of the county of Rutlandshire).
