I wrote to Mark Field congratulating him on coming up with this excellent policy. This was the reply.
Dear *** ************ Thank you very much for your e-mail - I will ensure that Mark sees it. We have been stunned by the positive response to the ConservativeHome article - let us hope that something will come of the proposal! Thank you again for having taken the time to let us have your thoughts on the matter. Some of us find Kentishman's spivvy crowing facile and banal. We suspect that it is actually counter productive: the attractiveness of an idea residing in its value, not in who (allegedly) adopted it as policy first. If the policy of a separate parliament and executive is adopted by the Conservatives, it increases the pressure on Brown and, regardless of whether he stays (I for one would not be surprised to see him gone by the end of 2009, if not before), the "compelling logic" (to use a Gaitskellian phrase) may oblige the British Labour Party to adopt it! Who then will remember that it was a policy rightly promoted by the English Democrats Party and will it matter anyway? |
