Default "More people in England want independence from UK than in Scotland new poll reveals"

ITV Teletext is currently reporting as its main news item (ITV 1 Teletext analogue page 303) that a third of voters in England want England to quit the UK (i.e. for England to split from Scotland) - according to a new opinion poll published in today's Sunday Mail (a Scottish newspaper).

33% of those questioned in England by the pollsters for the Sunday Mail survey said they want England to break from Scotland. A poll in August of this year (the most recent one to be taken in Scotland on the subject) found that 23% of those Scottish people questioned wanted their country to leave the UK.

Support in Scotland for Scotland quitting the UK has fallen since the May 2007 Scottish Parliamentary Elections. England is the one of the four parts of the UK not to have its own legislature.

Hardly suprising given the recent press regarding what the scots get free that us in England pay for. I maybe should have said us in the south east of England pay for. Not only do we put more in the pot for scotland we are subsidising the rest of England as well.

It is the same with Edinburgh.

I see no problem with lending a helping hand to my fellow countrymen if they are in need, it's called society. What I abhor is subsidising foreigners (Scotland) who are not in need and who are quite capable of looking after themselves (ask Alex Salmond). The sooner the United (ha ha) Kingdom splits up the better.

Perhaps the South-East produces the most because a) it's nearer London and b) the South East has always enjoyed more spending per head than the rest of the Country (that is, England). And another thing, perhaps other areas of the Country, such as the South West would do better if the Government ACTUALLY INVESTED something down here.

Instead, all they ever do is pull money out of the region. I see South East commuter routes (especially trains) get bundles of money poured in to ease overcrowding and improve journey times. The East coast mainline (London to Edinburgh) got massive investment and re-signalling (not to mention new trains) which improved journey times.

What does the South West and the Great Western mainline get? Sweet FA.

Cornwall is one of the poorest regions in the Country, BY DESIGN. Cornwall County Council gets an usually low amount of money from the government (compare Cornwall County Council's annual budget with that of Dudley, then compare how many people they cater for).

I'll also remind readers that London gets the highest per-head spending in the entire Country, above that of even Scotland.

That's a really unifying thing to say ~ I don't think!

As a Devonian born in Isca Dumnoniorum, capital of Dumnonia (which included Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset and part of Wiltshire), I'm rather with the main thrust of your posting here!

There is but a single main road link down the spine of Cornwall, and the rail link ~ winding it's way around the south of Devon (Dawlish, Teignmouth etc) ~ is somewhat tenuous. If the predicted climate change results in higher sea levels, it will be washed away. Can we expect our Scottish rulers to spare any cash to replace it . . . . ?

Default UK Treasury, UK Government public spending, London Boroughs, Livingstone

Just thought I would mention that taxpayers in the capital pay £5 billion more to the UK Treasury each year than they get back in UK Government public spending across the 32 London Boroughs.

Almost eight years of Labour europhile Livingstone as London Mayor has not reduced this unfairness.

There are three marginal parilamentary constituencies in Dudley which Labour are desperate to hold on to.

Much more help needs to be given to Cornwall.

I want to keep Cornwall in England not Dudley!

If we get together on England and stop the money going to the states of the UK wanting Independance we might have an ENGLAND!

English money is being used to maintain the UK where the only people wanting it to continue are in Westminster!

Let the 4 Nations stand on there own feet and come crawling back to England when there subsidies are cut!
