Default English Democrats get tougher on European Union

The General Membership attending the English Democrats 5th AGM voted for the following new wording to the Manifesto:-

Quote:
.......................... The English Democrats will seek referendum to decide this country's future relationship with the E.U.

That referendum should include teh option of leaving the EU and joining the European Free Trade Association EFTA, whose countries have a free trade agreement with the EU.

1 The English Democrats believe that this country should leave the EU and will campaign forcefully to that end.

2 If, in a referendum, England votes to leave the EU, then the English Democrats believe that we should so leave. It is the English who make the payments to the the EU and the other UK nations rely upon the English to continune to do so. In a referendum, the English Democrts would set out the costs that would need to be paid in order to keep the UK as a whole in the EU. The electorate has a right to know the amount of tax which they might be expected to pay.

3 If England votes to leave then all payments to the EU should cease forthwith and England should re-assert its own sovereingnty vis-a vis the EU. This would involve taking back powers that have ceded and our own territorial waters.

4 On leaving the EU, we would hope and expect that the other UK nations would likewise leave in order to preserve a cohesive British state and avoid unnecessary division.

5 In the event of one of more of the other UK nations preferring to remain in the EU, - then England should leaeve the EU nonetheless, unilaterally if necessary.
POLICY ENDS

Very unimpressive!

There's a great, turgid piece preceding it, which is recommended as a cure for insomnia!

Consequently, from what I've seen, most readers would have fallen asleep before they got to that bit.

There's still more room for improvement!

Unhappy A Muddle in Middle England?

The logic of this "beefed up" policy is that England would be an independent state outside the EU. This is at odds with not wanting to break-up the Union.

If the Union stays intact, then the EDs are after having a referendum in England that would be advisory only, because England would not have a legal status to negotiate withdrawal.

Reading this makes me think Humpty Dumpty drew it up. The English Democrats are trying to get the anti-EU vote whilst suggesting they want a devolved English Parliament within the Union. It's all cart-before-the-horse!

What does this mean?

"4 On leaving the EU, we would hope and expect that the other UK nations would likewise leave in order to preserve a cohesive British state and avoid unnecessary division."

This means, I take it, that England leaves the EU (by some mystically legal process!), having hoped that Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (each of whom have different legal status within the UK) all negotiate similar withdrawal agreements and then go on to achieve a cohesive British state!

If Cassie had a problem with the EDP it surely wasn't as supreme as this policy porridge!

Scotland and Wales depend on English subsidies, without which they cannot afford to stay in the EU. The funds to pay the EU contribution come from England.

Scotland and Wales cannot meet their own internal expenditure and are in deficit.

If the English subsidies end, and England votes to leave the EU, then Scotland and Wales have a problem.

If that is the attitude of your putative English government then it is England that will have the problem. Condemened throughout the world and with an affronted Scotland & Wales subsidised by their new EU masters on England's borders demanding this that and the other. That for example being higher prices for electricity sent from Scotland to England. No wonder I oppose the EDs.

Your line of thought really does not stack up IND UKIP man. What price are you willing to pay for the retention of a UK and a British state...how much more are you willing to support discrimination against the people of England...what are your true colours?
