The EFTA countries are free to choose which EU laws, if any, they adopt.

Every EFTA country exports more to the EU per capita than the UK. Norway and Switzerland export twice as much per capita to the EU than the UK.

As the Policy was re-confirmed on 15 September 2007, then there is no chance of it changing before the next General Meeting.

It is the "Current Policy" as are all our policies !

I hope it doesn't change at all - out of the EU and into EFTA (or some other trading organisation beneficial to English/UK interests) is the right policy.

Exactly. Swiss trade with the EU accounts for about 70% of all Swiss exports - yet the Swiss have kept control of their country (by staying out of the EU and rejecting even associate membership of it).

Outside the EU, the UK should be expected to pay no more to the EU pro-rata than the Swiss do. In fact, considering just how much the EEC/EU has ripped us British off and how much EU nations rely on trade with the UK - we could charge them for trading with us unless they stop making us pay for access to their declining trade market.

This policy has a good degree of concensus within the English Democrats and yes it is a good and logical policy.

I agree. Full marks to those in the English Democrat Party who got that party to adopt such a policy.

Yuk!
EDP = UKIP MkII.
And your final fate will be the same as UKIP MkI - You'll regret all those UKIP renegades you're recruiting.

I would just add this.

EFTA is now without a country with a mixed economy like ours (although the manufacturing bit of the mix is somewhat diluted!).
Most Icelanders work two jobs to create their standard of living.
As Britannist says, the EFTA countries do have to accept EU conditions (even if they are fewer of them).

Have the English Democrats and UKIP enquired of EFTA if it would be possible to join the club if the UK withdrew from the EU? And would the terms and the fewer conditions be to our advantage? It would be nice to know if this policy holds water!

I get the impression that the "let's join EFTA" policy is promoted as if there will be NO problems at all and it will be an easy-peasy "piece of cake" job!

In many ways, the EFTA would be worse, since we'd have to accept EU law without having any say in making it.
