What I said was: "Some of the party's current or very recent leaders have convictions for politically-inspired violence." Obviously by 'very recent' leaders one of those I had in mind was Tony 'The Bomber' Lecomber. As you may know, he did time in the 1980s for building bombs (the police alleged that he was on his way to plant them at the headquarters of the Workers Revolutionary Party, but in any case he and a BNP colleague were injured when they blew up prematurely in the boot of their car); and in the 1990s for a knife attack on a Jewish schoolteacher. Despite this record, he remained one of the BNP's top leaders and one of Nick Griffin's closest allies until about a year ago (when he was abruptly thrown out; I don't know the truth about his expulsion but the online rumours are very colourful indeed). I also had in mind various characters included in the BBC documentary 'Under the Skin of the BNP' in 2001 - if you click around the sections on 'The Advisory Council' and 'Party Organisers' from the page I've linked you'll see what I mean:

Some of these people are presumably still senior in the BNP leadership today. I don't know who Kevin Smith is, but I did hear of a BNP councillor and his election agent who were both convicted of assault and jailed in separate cases a few months back. Was one of them Kevin Smith?

This later BBC documentary (2004) also contained BNP members admitting to racial violence, but of course they were ordinary activists not 'leaders':

I have "spoken" to Kevin Smith online, and can assure you he's not in prison.

As for the latter incident, the party was infiltrated by Searchlight in an incident similar to the journalist involving Ian Cobain (the Guardian journalist). Such dirty tactics must be expected from the state given our growth in membership and stature as a political party.

I can assure you, since then the BNP have tightened up our security and for example racial slurs are not tolerated, any threats of physical violence will result in immediate expulsion. Members are focussed on positive ways of reclaiming our country, such as community politics.
