Default Pool DC, Branksome East By-Election 15 May

There is only one contest on 15 May and that is in Branksome East, Poole. The choice is a straight fight between Conservative and Liberal democrat. Some choice eh?

Before anyone from Dorset castigates me, it should be Poole not Pool.

That's been Poole's story for the past 20 years.

Branksome East is rock solid Tory and will remain that way for a long time to come I think.

It's not good that there isn't someone standing for UKIP in by-elections like this (paper candidate or not).

I forget the exact figure; but UKIP put up around 18 candidates in Poole Borough last year.
Not all of these people were of the paper variety.

UKIP must have been punching above their weight(!) as there were 13 candidates last year. None of whom contested the ward up for election now.

I stand corrected.

There are 3 wards in Poole Borough where I believe people [little parties] will be wasting their time contesting them.
Branksome East is one of them.

We note that none of the other [not Tory/LibDem] parties involved in Poole last year touched this ward.

Result.

Conservative 923
LibDem 750

Turnout 22%.

No change.
Ward remains represented by two Conservatives.
